Chapter 209 The Benefits of a Stupid Donkey
Chapter 209 The Benefits of a Stupid Donkey
Yan Xun shrugged his shoulders, shaking Qin Ke's head off.
Wen Yuan was desperately pleading with the old man in his heart, but the old man was also powerless to help. Unexpectedly, Wen Yuan suddenly became involved with being possessed by an evil spirit.
"Go and test Yan Xun," the old man said, "see if he was the one who reported it."
"What benefit would he get from reporting me?" Wen Yuanzheng wondered. "Wasn't he arrested himself?"
"Stupid donkey," the old man thought.
He decided not to rely on Wen Yuanzheng, but to test Yan Xun himself. A moment later, he entered Yan Xun's head and began to talk to him.
'You reported Wen Yuanzheng?'
"What did you say?" Yan Xun asked, puzzled. "What benefit would I get from reporting him?"
"The three of us came out of the captain's cabin together..." he asked the old man, "What grounds can I use to report him?"
The old man remained silent for a moment, probably because he couldn't find any evidence of Yan Xun's report.
"Weren't we all arrested because we were possessed by evil spirits?" Yan Xun said. "Or do you think Wen Yuanzheng was arrested because you possessed him?"
"Colomb can't find any evidence that you've possessed him."
The old man thought it made sense. If other players couldn't find it, then the NPC Coron shouldn't be able to either. But he still felt something was off. How could it be such a coincidence? He had just finished cleaning up Wen Yuan and was about to destroy the amulet on the bow of the ship when Coron locked them in the storeroom.
'Perhaps it's because you reported him for believing in something else,' the old man said after thinking for a moment.
"What do you mean I'll believe everything Koren says?" Yan Xun retorted. "Can I find totems or silver coins on Wen Yuanzheng that symbolize other faiths?"
That's for sure; the old man was certain that Wen Yuanzheng had nothing on him that could reveal anything.
Unable to find any evidence, he could only believe it was a pure coincidence—although he still suspected Yan Xun, so he changed his story.
'If you want to get to the ice wall, you'll only encounter a storm,' the old man said to Yan Xun in his heart.
'As long as that amulet remains, the Terror will not encounter a storm.'
"You mean, the Sun God's amulet on the Terror was destroyed last time?" Yan Xun suddenly asked.
He remembered that the voyage log mentioned that the last time they encountered a storm, they came to unfamiliar waters and then encountered a large number of whales.
As the captain wrote in his diary, what happened next was that their whaling ship was capsized, and the captain's diary entries went mad, filled with constant confessions that the person was watching him and that he had no choice but to do it.
Yan Xun actually had a hard time judging whether what he wrote in his diary was true or fictional. Later on, the captain kept repeating that the crew members were possessed by evil spirits, and that he himself was being watched by something.
"Do you know what happened on the last Terror Ship?" Yan Xun asked again.
The old man fell silent.
Yan Xun already knew the answer from his silence.
“Last time, someone did indeed damage the amulet at the bow of the ship.” He thought for a moment. “Was it one of the infidels on board?”
But Yan Xun was more concerned about the captain's final confession in his diary—
Forgive me, I had to do this.
He kept staring at me.
What exactly is the captain confessing to...?
……
The old man probably didn't expect that Yan Xun would trick him into revealing some information, so he could only slink back into Wen Yuanzheng's head, thinking that even a stupid donkey has its advantages.
At least we won't be tricked into revealing information.
Wen Yuanzheng was completely unaware that he had been turned into a stupid donkey. He was still complaining about how unlucky he was. He hadn't even done anything wrong, yet he was secretly detained by the damned crew.
"If I can't escape, I'll die here!" Wen Yuan shouted, thinking about his Blue Gold Mission.
Yan Xun knew that he was still thinking about the Blue Gold quest—according to the dungeon design, at least four of them had received the Blue Gold quest, so the storm was bound to come. Therefore, even if Wen Yuanzheng didn't take action, the storm would still appear.
Wen Yuanzheng was unaware that Yan Xun had accepted the Blue Gold mission, but the old man did.
Therefore, the old man had no reason to let Wen Yuanzheng risk destroying the amulet, unless he had other intentions.
Yan Xun didn't intend to trap Wen Yuanzheng for long, but he hoped that the man wouldn't be bewitched by the old man in the middle of the night and actually destroy the sun god's amulet at the bow of the ship.
“Yes, yes,” Qin Ke chimed in after hearing Wen Yuanzheng’s words, “I don’t want to die here either.”
Yan Xun thought to himself, "I'm so unlucky. How did I end up locked up with these two?"
If Gu Jia and Gao Wen were here instead, the situation would be much better than it is now.
He certainly didn't want Qin Ke to find out that he already knew he was a member of the Angel Guild, but those who could enter this advancement dungeon were probably not high-ranking members of the guild, and it was probably just a coincidence.
But the people in this guild are all crazy, and Yan Xun is worried that this person might suddenly go crazy and destroy the amulet on the bow of the ship, so he can only keep him by his side for the time being.
“Maybe they can release us tomorrow,” Yan Xun said. “At the latest, they should be able to clear us of suspicion in two or three days.”
Wen Yuanzheng's face immediately fell. He thought to himself that in two or three days, the opportunity would be lost, so what use would it be for him to go out?
If I can't complete the hidden quest, wouldn't all the enhancement pills I bought have been for nothing?
Qin Ke also had his own concerns: "But if we stay here and can't find any clues, what if we can't complete Mission 2?"
He looked at Yan Xun and asked, "Will we be unable to leave this place then?"
Yan Xun knew that players who received the hidden quest would at least survive until they reached the ice wall, so he wasn't too worried about quest 2.
Moreover, he felt he had already grasped some clues for Mission 2... Now all that's left is a storm to verify them.
He felt that he and Gu Jia had some kind of tacit understanding, and that the other party might be able to find some crucial clues while he was trapped.
……
Gu Jia sat at the long table, and Gao Wen walked over to him and plopped down next to him.
Do you know what happened?
Gao Wen asked Gu Jia with concern, "How come I only haven't seen them for a short while, and they've already been locked up in the warehouse?"
He had been searching for clues all over the ship, and only after hearing the commotion did he realize that Yan Xun and the other two were suspected of being possessed by an evil spirit and had been taken to the bottom of the warehouse and imprisoned.
No one is allowed to approach at this time.
Gu Jia looked at Gao Wen and briefly recounted what had happened in the captain's cabin.
Gawain exclaimed in surprise, "This captain must be possessed by an evil spirit!"
He glanced at the players around him and whispered, "Otherwise, how come the crew and we can all see it, but he can't see it?"
Gu Jia didn't agree, and instead brought up the fact that Qin Ke hadn't been blessed by the Whale Whisperers.
This includes Will's hints, the diary in the captain's cabin, and the fact that everyone fell into the Sea of Evil last year.
Gao Wen was also surprised that while he was searching for information on the ship, Yan Xun had already found so many clues... What shocked Gao Wen even more was...
"...You mean, if they didn't receive the hidden mission, they would be thrown into the Sea of Evil Spirits as bait before they even saw the whale?" Gawain asked.
"Ah."
"Do you think we should say it?" Gao Wen asked.
He was young, hadn't experienced many challenges, and still had a somewhat naive desire to save everyone.
Gu Jia said, "Do you think other people will believe us?"
"Why don't you ask them now, say you suspect there's important information in the captain's cabin, and we can investigate tomorrow to see how many people will believe you?"
Gao Wen understood Gu Jia's meaning, knowing that entering the captain's cabin now had become a danger signal—
Sure enough, people at the dinner table started bringing it up.
“I’m not going to the captain’s cabin,” one player immediately said. He seemed to be implying that no one who had been to the captain’s cabin had a good ending. Then he noticed Gawain, who was still at the dining table, and remembered that he was also a troublemaker. He could only avoid eye contact. “Whoever wants to go can go.”
Each player has their own little schemes.
Yan Xun and the other two were temporarily detained. Apart from the player who died, there are now only 5 people left at the dinner table.
After Wen Yuanzheng was imprisoned, the bearded man acted like the leader of the players.
“We only have five men left now,” the bearded man said. “Corren sends three men to clean the captain’s cabin every day.”
He looked at the five people at the table, three of them on his side, and Gao Wen and Gu Jia opposite him. "How do you think we should decide on our representatives for tomorrow?"
"What do you mean?" Gao Wen frowned. "You're the one who has to decide this kind of thing?"
“That’s not how it works.” The bearded man shrugged. “Nobody wants to clean the captain’s cabin right now. Anyone who goes there is either told by the Whale Whisperer that they’re in danger, or locked up in the storeroom, suspected of being possessed by an evil spirit.”
He crossed his arms and said, "I'm not that selfless. Anyway, I'm not willing to go."
"Whoever wants to go can go by themselves." He said, looking at the other two people on his side, "Are you going?"
The two men immediately shook their heads.
"So, to be fair, we'll draw lots..."
Before he could finish speaking, Gu Jia interrupted him, "I will go."
The bearded man paused for a moment.
Gawain looked at him impatiently, "I'll go too."
"Alright, the last one..." he looked at the trio opposite him, "you decide for yourselves."
This caught the bearded man off guard. His original plan was to force Gao Wen to go to the captain's cabin, and Gu Jia would also have to be arranged to go. The rest of the people... would naturally be chosen from among the three of them. He himself definitely couldn't go, so he would have to do something underhanded.
The fact that the two agreed so readily left the bearded man somewhat bewildered.
The remaining two followers also realized that things were not going well.
They exchanged a glance, thinking about whether they should team up to get rid of the bearded man.
Gawain had originally wanted to reveal some information so that they would also try to take on hidden missions—but he was so disgusted by the three men's ulterior motives that he simply stopped talking.
He saw through his two lackeys' intentions and found it amusing.
"How about you play rock-paper-scissors?" Gao Wen suggested casually.
The bearded man was worried that the two men were plotting against him, so he only said that he had already prepared the things for the lottery.
"You've prepared this so early?" Gawain looked at the lottery props the bearded man had prepared. "You didn't make these, did you?"
No matter how you look at it, that thing is clearly a prop bought from the mall.
The bearded man argued forcefully, "I bought these props specifically to prevent anyone from refusing to go to the captain's cabin tomorrow."
He then placed the props on the table.
It was a gashapon machine. "You can skip it if you get a 'lucky' one." The bearded man looked at the two men. "You two don't object, do you?"
The two henchmen knew he had prepared the props, but the bearded man had been mysterious and hadn't revealed what they were. When they saw the props being sold in the store, the two of them disagreed.
"Isn't this tool a cheat?" one of them said.
"No."
"Why don't we just play rock-paper-scissors!"
The bearded man realized something was wrong. His initial plan was to decide who would go to the captain's cabin that very night, but who would have thought that Yan Xun and the other two would be locked up in the storeroom?
Suddenly, only the five of them were left at the table!
No matter which option you choose, one of your side will have to go!
Realizing that the two were already planning to send him away, the bearded man simply put away the lottery tickets. "Never mind!"
"Wait until tomorrow for roll call at Coron!"
He's already prepared not to show up tomorrow morning.
Perhaps because there were so few new crew members left, it seemed too deserted... Their little argument quickly attracted the attention of the other side.
Or, to put it another way, after Yan Xun and the other two were locked in the warehouse.
The veteran crew members had been keeping a close eye on the movements of the five people on this side.
"What's all the noise about?" Will stood up impatiently, looking at the group.
Koren immediately stood up to smooth things over, saying, "Maybe they're just a little nervous."
He patted Will on the shoulder a few times, gestured for the others to continue playing around, and then walked to the other side of the table.
He didn't sit on either side of the long table, but instead took the seat of honor, resting his chin on his hand as he looked at the new players.
"Can you tell me what you're arguing about?"
He said.
"Arguing on the ship is not a good idea."
“We’re family,” Corren smiled. “At least we were on this ship.”
His green eyes swept over the group of players. "Can you share this with me?"
Gawain cut to the chase, “They don’t want to clean the captain’s cabin.” He told Corin, “So we’re drawing lots to decide who will clean the captain’s cabin tomorrow.”
He crossed his arms, looking quite displeased. "I can go, and so can Gu Jia."
He told Colum, "You can take your time choosing from the three of them."
The bearded man probably didn't expect Gawain to suddenly attack him. He immediately wanted to open his mouth to say something, but when he saw the smiling Coron beside him, he shut up. "...I didn't mean I didn't want to go to the captain's cabin."
"So you want to go to the captain's cabin?" Corren asked.
The bearded man regretted his words. "I'd rather clean other places," he said.
Koren saw through his little scheme but didn't refute it. Instead, he asked the other two people for their opinions, "What about you?"
The two of them shook their heads, saying they would rather go somewhere else.
Koren didn't seem angry; he simply nodded knowingly.
“Perhaps you have some misunderstandings about the captain’s quarters,” he told them. “As long as you don’t touch the captain’s things, he’s a very easy person to talk to.”
His words seemed to imply that Yan Xun and the others were arrested because they had carelessly touched the captain's personal belongings.
Gao Wen immediately tensed up upon hearing this.
He knew that Yan Xun and the others had read the diary and were worried that they were locked up because of it.
“But…” Corren changed the subject, “If you really don’t want to go, you don’t have to go.”
"Anyway, the captain's cabin has been cleaned for several days in a row, so there shouldn't be anything else worth cleaning."
He stood up.
"Of course, anyone who wants to clean can sign up again tomorrow."
He smiled.
"That is, if you are still alive tomorrow."
