Chapter 244 The Journey
Chapter 244 The Journey
In that instant, Number Two and Number Three shuddered violently as if struck by lightning, for they clearly felt a vast and mysterious energy surging forth continuously from the Memory Pearl! This power came on fiercely, sweeping in like a raging storm, its might astonishing. In that instant, Number Two and Number Three's hearts trembled involuntarily, and they exchanged a reflexive glance, their eyes filled with astonishment and fear.
However, before they could react, the incredibly powerful energy seemed to possess its own consciousness, swiftly enveloping them both. Number Two felt a sudden, excruciating pain throughout his body, as if thousands of tiny steel needles were simultaneously piercing every inch of his skin, every muscle, and even every bone! Although the pain was unbearable, for some reason, his body was completely unable to move, forced to endure the torment.
At the same time, Number Three also encountered an extremely strange situation. He was horrified to find that the scene before him, which was originally clear, began to gradually become blurry. Everything around him seemed to be distorted and deformed under the influence of this mysterious energy, eventually transforming into all sorts of bizarre and incomprehensible shapes. These distorted images kept flickering and flashing in his eyes, making him feel dizzy and nauseous.
In the blink of an eye, an extremely dazzling light flashed by. The light was so intense that Number Two and Number Three didn't even have time to close their eyes to protect themselves. When the light slowly dissipated, they were astonished to find themselves in a completely unfamiliar space.
Looking up, the sky above this space was an eerie deep purple, like a giant amethyst suspended overhead. The ground beneath their feet was densely covered with strange patterns that shimmered with a faint, eerie light. These patterns crisscrossed and meandered, appearing both mysterious and sinister. Further away, a colossal black tower stood majestically, its surface inscribed with a variety of complex and obscure ancient runes. The tower soared into the clouds, shrouded in a thin, ethereal black mist, emanating a chilling aura. That aura was cold and oppressive, like the breath of death emanating from the depths of hell, sending shivers down one's spine. From afar, this tower resembled a colossal dark beast, standing atop this mysterious land, as if it were the absolute ruler of this mystical world, controlling the fate of all living beings.
"Where are we?" Number Two asked, his voice trembling as he stared in terror at the unfamiliar surroundings. His body trembled slightly, and cold sweat poured down his forehead; he was clearly terrified by the sight before him.
Number Three frowned, his gaze warily scanning his surroundings. He didn't immediately answer Number Two's question, but instead gripped his weapon tightly, cautiously moving forward step by step. After a while, he slowly spoke, "I don't know, but I think it's definitely related to the Memory Pearl. Let's proceed with caution; something eerie is going on here." With that, Number Three tightened his grip on his weapon again, then continued walking towards the tower that exuded a terrifying aura.
Seeing this, Number Two quickly caught up with Number Three. The two walked side by side, each step taken with extreme caution. At this moment, they could clearly feel each other's heartbeats pounding like war drums, and a tense atmosphere filled the air.
An unprecedented solemnity appeared on both of their faces, an expression seemingly etched into their features, impossible to erase. They knew that this Memory Pearl, radiating immense power, was no ordinary object. Now that it had chosen them, a new journey filled with countless unknown challenges and thrilling dangers awaited them. This path might be fraught with thorns and traps; it might even conceal various demons, monsters, and curses. However, no matter what difficulties and obstacles lay ahead, they were determined to forge ahead and uncover the earth-shattering secrets hidden behind it. As they approached the Black Tower, the surrounding air grew increasingly cold, as if it would pierce their very bones. Just as Number Three stepped onto the steps leading to the Black Tower, a rune array suddenly lit up beneath his feet, followed by countless black shadows that leaped out of the array, baring their fangs and claws as they pounced on them. Number Two shouted, forming hand seals and releasing a shield that barely blocked the shadows' attacks. Seizing the opportunity, Number Three charged towards the shadowy figures, his weapon flashing with cold light, each strike dispersing several. However, the shadowy figures seemed endless. Just as they were about to collapse, Number Two noticed that the shadowy figures appeared to fear the aura of the Memory Pearl. He took out the Memory Pearl, which emitted a soft glow. The shadowy figures instantly retreated, disappearing back into the rune array. They breathed a sigh of relief and continued their ascent to the top of the tower. Finally reaching the top, they found a stone platform in the center, upon which floated a larger Memory Pearl, resonating with the pearl in Number Two's hand. At that moment, a deep voice echoed around them: "You have passed the test and will now gain a special ability." As the voice faded, a golden light flowed into their bodies, instantly filling them with power. On this path, there might be eerie ancient ruins, formidable enemies lurking in the shadows, or unbelievable fantastical encounters, but in any case, they had no way to retreat. Because the gears of fate have already begun to turn, and they are destined to embark on this magnificent journey to uncover the earth-shattering secret hidden behind the Memory Pearl. Feeling the surge of power within him, Number Three clenched his fist, his gaze fixed resolutely on the distance. "We need to find the next clue as soon as possible," Number Two nodded in agreement, and the two turned to leave the Black Tower.
The moment they stepped out of the Black Tower, dark clouds suddenly filled the sky, accompanied by flashes of lightning and thunder. A gigantic bird swooped down from the clouds, its wings whipping up powerful gusts of air. Number Two recognized it as the spirit bird that guarded this mysterious region, a creature said to be wielded only by those with special abilities.
Number Three was eager to fight, but Number Two stopped him, taking out the Memory Pearl and waving it at the spirit bird. The spirit bird became docile and landed in front of them. Number Two tried to communicate with the spirit bird using his mind, and the spirit bird emitted a clear chirp, as if in response.
Then, the spirit bird carried them to a misty mountain peak. Halfway up the mountain, there was a hidden cave, its entrance shimmering with an eerie light. They dismounted and cautiously entered the cave. Inside, the cave was filled with ancient runes and murals depicting the former glory and terrible calamities of the Memory Pearl. Just as they were studying them carefully, many vines suddenly sprouted from the cave walls and quickly entangled them.
