Chapter 489 Telling Myself Secretly
Chapter 489 Telling Myself Secretly
Su Ming followed him closely, a complex mix of emotions swirling within him. He didn't understand Zheng Yaoxian's persistence, nor did he understand why he was always willing to endure so much danger and pain. However, he knew that at this moment, he had no choice; he had to continue on with Zheng Yaoxian.
The footsteps gradually became more rapid, and Su Ming realized that they were no longer simply dealing with external threats. More importantly, Zheng Yaoxian's physical strength was nearing its limit. With each step, Zheng Yaoxian seemed to be struggling more and more, and his once handsome face gradually became contorted in pain and exhaustion.
"Stop." Su Ming finally couldn't help himself and grabbed Zheng Yaoxian's arm. His eyes seemed to penetrate Zheng Yaoxian's body and see his inner struggle. "You can't go on. Your injuries are too severe. They must be treated."
Zheng Yaoxian looked up at him, his expression still calm, without a trace of panic in his eyes. "No," he whispered, "If we stop any longer, the enemy will catch up."
"Do you think I care about this?" Su Ming said angrily, his voice filled with anxiety and helplessness. "If you don't leave, I will take you away."
Zheng Yaoxian froze for a moment, and in that instant, Su Ming could almost see the brief hesitation in his eyes. However, Zheng Yaoxian quickly regained his composure, and that resoluteness almost immediately took over his expression. "You can't get away," Zheng Yaoxian said slowly, his low tone revealing an unquestionable calmness. "We have to go a little further."
"You won't get far like this." Su Ming practically gritted his teeth as he spoke, the anxiety and worry in his heart once again suffocating him. Zheng Yaoxian's words, though simple, left him feeling inexplicably powerless. He knew the man's strength before him was nearly overwhelming his rationality.
"Give up." Zheng Yaoxian suddenly fell silent after saying this, his eyes froze for a moment, as if he had completely lost consciousness. At that moment, he seemed no longer the fearless warrior he once was, but just a wanderer struggling alone in the long river of life.
Su Ming's heartbeat suddenly accelerated, and the air seemed thick and suffocating. Zheng Yaoxian's body weighed him down, nearly unbearable. His face, once resolute and calm, now seemed weakened. His footsteps grew heavier, and Zheng Yaoxian's back arched slightly. Sweat trickled down his pale forehead and into the corners of his tightly closed eyes. He didn't react, as his body seemed to tell him a truth he couldn't ignore—he could no longer hold on.
Su Ming gritted his teeth, feeling a rip in his heart. He had no time to reflect or regret, nor to understand why Zheng Yaoxian would repeatedly choose such unreasonable persistence. Right now, the most important thing to him was saving him.
"Zheng Yaoxian!" His voice was low and urgent, almost unconsciously raising its volume. He grasped Zheng Yaoxian's shoulders tightly and shook him vigorously. Zheng Yaoxian's body swayed slightly, but his eyes remained closed. He had no strength to respond, not even a groan.
"Wake up! You can't fall down!" Su Ming's tone was almost commanding. He felt a surge of anxiety sweep through him, almost making it impossible for him to control his emotions. He pushed Zheng Yaoxian away with all his strength, trying to bring him back to consciousness, but he remained unresponsive, seemingly completely lost in the ensuing weakness.
At this moment, Su Ming felt a strong sense of powerlessness. Although he had never been so anxious before, he still hadn't found a breakthrough. Although his body didn't feel tired, every time he watched Zheng Yaoxian's body gradually sink, his inner panic became more and more obvious.
He suddenly realized he was caught in a dilemma. Looking at Zheng Yaoxian's expression, he knew he had no time to waste. Whether Zheng Yaoxian was willing to admit it or not, the truth was—he couldn't go on like this.
But he, Su Ming, did not have the choice to give up.
He lowered his head, looking at Zheng Yaoxian's pale face, his heart awash with emotion. He knew that man best, someone he knew best. At crucial moments, even his heartbeat and emotions would unconsciously sync. He knew Zheng Yaoxian was the kind of man who would stop at nothing to complete a mission. But at this moment, he could no longer hold on.
"You have to survive," Su Ming secretly told himself, his eyes revealing a firm determination, "No matter what, you must survive."
At that moment, Zheng Yaoxian's fingers moved slightly. The tiny movement was almost inaudible, but it was the only signal Su Ming could detect in his despair. He suddenly leaned over and instinctively grasped Zheng Yaoxian's wrist. The warmth on his fingers was still there, much colder than an ordinary person's, but at least there was some sign of life.
"Are you awake?" Su Ming's voice was low and tense. He reached out to support Zheng Yaoxian, lifting his upper body and resting it against his shoulders, supporting him with an almost gentle strength. Zheng Yaoxian's eyes finally fluttered open, the confusion in them quickly replaced by a firmness. Though still weak, his eyes revealed an unnatural determination.
"I'm fine." Zheng Yaoxian's voice was hoarse and low, with a hint of calmness eroded by pain, but still revealing that sharpness that should not be underestimated.
"You call this okay?" Su Ming almost couldn't help but whisper angrily, but he stopped immediately. He knew that saying anything more was meaningless at this moment. Zheng Yaoxian before him was simply trying his best to maintain his usual calm and rationality. Even though he was nearly exhausted, he still didn't want to expose a moment of vulnerability.
"We have to leave quickly." Zheng Yaoxian spoke reluctantly. He tried to prop himself up, as if he didn't want Su Ming to see any trace of weakness in him.
"Leave?" Su Ming frowned, looking at the struggling Zheng Yaoxian. He could hardly believe that Zheng Yaoxian could still speak. "Even if you leave now, can you still move?"
Zheng Yaoxian smiled lightly, his expression still as cold as usual: "It's not something you can decide."
That smile, almost tinged with a hint of sick irony, couldn't conceal the unyielding determination in his eyes. Su Ming suddenly felt a pang of heartache; that silent stubbornness pierced his heart deeply. Even though his body was frail, even though he was riddled with wounds, Zheng Yaoxian still refused to bow his head, refused to show weakness.
