Spy Wars: Strong Agents Who Are Ruthless and Talk Little

Chapter 385 Su Ming Did Not Let Down His Vigilance

Chapter 385 Su Ming Did Not Let Down His Vigilance

The target was panting heavily, clearly exhausted, but Su Ming remained alert. He glanced around, confirming it was safe before whispering, "There's a rendezvous point five kilometers ahead. Hold on."

"Who are you?" the target finally couldn't help asking, his voice full of gratitude and confusion.

"I'm your only hope tonight," Su Ming replied briefly, his tone a touch tired yet resolute. He pulled the man back on his way, mentally preparing for what was to come.

In the night, Su Ming's back remained upright, like an unshakable peak. He knew that this spy war was far from over, and the only thing he could do was to keep going.

Su Ming sped along, the night wind whistling in his ears. He remained calm, calculating every step precisely. His mind quickly formed a plan for the next step, considering the enemy's possible pursuit routes and how to use the terrain to his advantage to lead the target to the rendezvous point.

"Can you still walk?" He asked his target without turning his head, his voice low but unquestionable.

"Yes...yes." Though breathless, the target gritted his teeth and persevered, clearly knowing he couldn't fall behind. A mixture of awe and confusion filled his eyes, clearly impressed by Su Ming's calmness and professionalism.

Su Ming kept his eyes fixed on the road and continued forward. He knew that while the terrain in this area was complex, it was also extremely dangerous. If the enemy deployed a search team, they would quickly find their tracks. Time was running out, so he had to speed up.

On a secluded mountain path, Su Ming suddenly stopped. He set his sights on a large tree and quickly climbed to the top of the tree, observing the movement in the distance. His eyes narrowed, catching sight of several rapidly moving points of light. Clearly, the enemy's search party had begun its movement.

"Here they come," he thought silently, tapping the tree trunk with his fingers as several options quickly emerged in his mind. He had to shake off the pursuers before the rendezvous point, otherwise even reaching the safe zone would be useless.

"Are they catching up?" the target asked in a low voice, with obvious nervousness in his tone.

"Yes." Su Ming jumped down from the tree and patted his shoulder, "But I don't plan to let them find us yet."

With that, he pulled a specially made flare from his waist pack, lit it, and tossed it high into the air. The flare exploded in the night sky, emitting a dazzling white light accompanied by a shrill whistle. This was intended to create a distraction and lure the enemy into pursuing in the wrong direction.

"Follow me closely now and don't make any noise." Su Ming said softly, with a firmness in his eyes that could not be refused.

They quickly changed direction, bypassing a dense forest and entering a more secluded mountain path. Along the way, Su Ming hardly let his guard down, his ears catching every subtle sound, his eyes as sharp as a falcon's.

"How come you are so familiar with this place?" the target couldn't help but ask in a low voice, trying to distract himself from the tension in his heart.

Su Ming did not answer, but just smiled coldly: "I know more than you think."

This smile was both a response to his goal and a reminder to himself to stay calm. He knew very well that behind enemy lines, any moment of relaxation could ruin the mission.

After crossing the path, they arrived at an open valley. The terrain was clearly very unfavorable for them. Su Ming stopped and looked around, quickly identifying possible cover points. His eyes rested on a steep rock face on one side, where there was a narrow crack, large enough for two people to hide.

"Go in." He whispered to the target while standing guard outside vigilantly.

After the target slipped into the crevice, Su Ming drew his pistol and quietly stood guard at the entrance. His finger rested lightly on the trigger, his gaze fixed on the distant valley entrance. A variety of possible scenarios played out in his mind, and he knew he had to be ready for battle at any moment.

A few minutes later, footsteps could be heard in the distance, gradually approaching with the glow of a flashlight. Su Ming held his breath, his fingers exerting a slight pressure. His heartbeat gradually slowed, and a calmness unique to hunters took over his mind. He knew his goal was not only to protect himself, but also to ensure the successful completion of the mission.

"Could they be here?" A hoarse voice came from a distance, obviously the pursuing enemy.

"Check every corner and don't miss any details." Another voice ordered, the tone cold and ruthless.

A sneer curled up Su Ming's lips. He gently squeezed the trigger, and a bullet accurately struck an enemy's flashlight. The intense light suddenly went out, sending the remaining men into a panic.

"It's a sniper! Take cover!" The enemy responded quickly and sought cover.

Taking advantage of the chaos, Su Ming quickly retreated into the crevice. He whispered to his target, "Be quiet. Take a deep breath with me."

The target forced himself to calm down, mimicking Su Ming's breathing. He sensed the other's composure, and a sense of trust gradually grew in his heart.

Just as the enemy was gradually regaining their composure, Su Ming suddenly pulled out a smoke bomb and tossed it into the valley floor. Thick smoke instantly filled the air, completely obscuring the enemy's vision. Seizing the opportunity, he continued his advance along the secret passage behind the crevice, aiming for his target.

They hurried along, finally arriving at the rendezvous point at daybreak. It was a small camp hidden in the forest, where several members of the rendezvous team were already waiting.

"Su Ming, you really didn't let me down." The leading receiving team member whispered, his tone full of admiration.

Su Ming nodded and handed the target over to the other party: "He is your responsibility now. Next, I have other tasks."

The target looked at Su Ming's back and couldn't help asking, "Who are you? Why can you do it so cleanly and efficiently?"

Su Ming turned around, the corners of his mouth slightly raised, but his eyes were still as deep as the night: "I am just a person who does what I should do."

With that, he turned and disappeared into the forest. His steps were brisk yet powerful, as if each one contained a firm conviction. He knew that the completion of his mission was only a brief respite, and the road ahead was still full of uncertainties. But no matter how arduous the path ahead, he would fearlessly meet every challenge.

Su Ming passed through a forest faintly tinged with red by the morning sun. The light filtering through the trees cast dappled shadows on his face. His steps were as brisk as ever, even the falling leaves barely making a sound. The completion of the mission didn't make him relax. He knew that the end of each mission could be the beginning of the next danger.

"Hoo—" He leaned against a thick old tree, closed his eyes, and took a short, deep breath. The moist, fresh air eased his tension slightly, but his alertness remained. He knew full well that the enemy might still be lurking behind him.

At that moment, his mind couldn't help but recall the brief encounter with the enemy last night. He remembered the twang of their footsteps, the subtle inflections in their voices. These details made him suspect that the enemy leader might be a seasoned tracker. This realization made Su Ming secretly clench his fists. He always preferred to strike first, rather than passively accept a blow.

"Don't be careless," he reminded himself mentally, his fingers habitually running across the holster at his waist to check if the weapon was still in top condition. He quickly regained his composure, a flicker of determination in his eyes.

Just then, there was a sound of flapping wings overhead. He looked up and saw a crow flying overhead, chirping uncomfortably as it headed deeper into the forest. This small movement alerted Su Ming. He glanced around and noticed something strange about the forest atmosphere. The birdsong seemed to have suddenly become scarce, as if something unusual was approaching.

"Someone's following me." The thought flashed through his mind like lightning. The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, revealing a slightly provocative sneer. He didn't act immediately, but instead slowed down his pace, deliberately making subtle footsteps while observing his surroundings with his peripheral vision.

Suddenly, a faint flash of light flashed through the nearby bushes. Su Ming's heart tightened, but he remained calm. He lowered his head to adjust his boots, then slowly and carefully drew his gun, making almost no sound.

"You hid well." He said silently to the stalker in his heart, but his footsteps moved in another direction, deliberately revealing a seemingly open gap.

Sure enough, there was a very slight sound of movement coming from the bushes. The other party was obviously trying to quietly approach Su Ming's position.

At this critical moment, Su Ming suddenly turned and fired a shot at the bush without warning. The gunshot suddenly exploded in the silent forest, startling the surrounding birds.

"Come out," Su Ming said coldly, his voice low but carrying an undeniable intimidation. His eyes were sharp as knives, staring straight into the bushes.

After a moment's silence, a figure slowly rose from the bushes. The man, dressed in dark combat gear, had a black cloth covering his face and clutched a submachine gun. He raised his hands and forced a wry smile, "Your hearing is truly terrible."

Su Ming did not let down his guard, still pointing the gun at the other party: "How long have you been following me?"

The man was clearly wary of Su Ming's calmness. He hesitated before speaking, "Not long. We were only ordered to confirm the target's safe delivery. We have no malicious intent."

"No ill intentions?" Su Ming raised an eyebrow, his gaze filled with obvious sarcasm. "Stalking you doesn't look like someone without malicious intent."

"We're just carrying out a mission." The other person's tone was filled with a hint of helplessness. "The higher-ups are worried, so they sent us here to ensure everything is safe. If you feel it's inappropriate, I can report back."
