Chapter 161 Master Liaoyuan asked

Chapter 161 Master Liaoyuan asked

Shen Ruyi continued, "Appearances are created by the mind, and circumstances change with the mind. External objects are just external objects, and they all move with one's own heart. Therefore, the most important thing is the intention.

Go with the flow, don’t anticipate the future, don’t get distracted by the present, and don’t dwell on the past.”

Master Liaoyuan asked seven questions, "What do you think of people coming to worship gods and Buddhas? Do you think their kneeling and praying are useful?"

“I can’t really say for sure. I personally think that gods and Buddhas do exist, although I have never seen them.

As for whether kneeling is useful, I think kneeling is useless for most people.

Kneeling down only appeases their own hearts. It is better to worship oneself than to worship gods and Buddhas.

People often spend two taels of silver to pray for something worth ten thousand taels. It is easier to achieve something in dreams because only in dreams can everything be achieved.

There are tens of thousands of people in the world. If it really works and has spiritual power, the gods and Buddhas would be exhausted to death.

Moreover, look at what all living beings pray for: promotion and wealth, many children and blessings, or a long line of descendants?

When water is full, it overflows; when the moon waxes, it wanes; the way of heaven abhors fullness; the way of man abhors perfection. Perfection is incompleteness; and fullness is dissatisfaction.

Life is full of imperfections, and everything going as planned is just a beautiful wish.

So when ordinary people meet, they wish each other all the best.

If one can get what they want with just one blessing, I guess people will stop wishing for it. They say it because they know it won't come true.

It's like, if I have 10 taels of silver on me, I certainly won't say to everyone I meet, "I'll give you 10 taels of silver," because I really have 10 taels of silver in my pocket.

But I might make a random promise to others, saying that I will treat you to a meal when I have money. Because I don’t know when I will have money, I just say it casually.

Besides, what else is there to pray for? Instead of praying to the gods and Buddhas, you might as well cultivate virtue. Maybe, virtue will come to you without you even asking for it.

Blessings and good fortune, can they be prayed for? They are clearly accumulated through many lifetimes of practice. "

Master Liaoyuan asked eight questions, "You say you believe in the existence of gods and Buddhas, but you don't believe kneeling down to worship is useful. Isn't this contradictory?"

"How can there be a contradiction? I believe in the existence of gods and Buddhas, and I also read scriptures. I believe in the true gods and Buddhas, and I read the true scriptures.

However, many of the gods in the temples are statues that are materialized by people’s imaginations and do not necessarily represent the will of the real God or Buddha.

Just like what ordinary people often say, if God can show his power, I will make a golden body for him.

How do ordinary people know that gods like golden bodies? It’s because ordinary people think gold is the most valuable. In their opinion, it is the most precious thing, so they think that gods and Buddhas love gold and silver.

But I think that gods and Buddhas may prefer the power of sincere faith rather than gold and silver.

Gods and Buddhas have already become gods and Buddhas, so how could they lack gold, silver, money and other worldly possessions? I personally don’t really believe this.

If they want to maintain their existing divine power or want to go to a higher level, the power of faith will most likely help them.

Of course, this is just my own guess and conjecture, without any basis.

As for the monks and Buddhas in the temple, no matter how high they are, or even how holy they are, and no matter how deeply they have practiced, the premise of their existence is that they are still human beings.

As a human being, you have seven emotions and six desires, and as a human being, you have selfishness.

If there is selfishness, there will be discrimination. Since they have selfishness and discrimination, how can they represent the will of Gods and Buddhas?

Gods and Buddhas should be selfless!"

Master Liaoyuan asked the ninth question, "Since you think kneeling is useless, is there any need for people to kneel and pray?"

“Yes. When medicine cannot save the patient, when everything seems hopeless, praying to God (faith) may be the last line of defense in people’s hearts.

We must leave some thoughts and hopes for the people, so that they can live well with expectations.

Of course, we cannot rely on God for everything. If you pray to God, who can God pray to?

I once saw a couplet: "If you do good deeds, you don't need to worship me; if you do evil deeds, there is no point in worshipping me." This sentence fully expresses the true meaning of praying to gods and Buddhas."

Master Liao Yuan seemed to be frozen in place, not moving at all.

After Shen Ruyi finished speaking, she drank her tea quietly.

About two cups of tea passed like this before Master Liaoyuan came to his senses.

He said, "Amitabha, I have benefited a lot today. Thank you very much, little donor."

"You're too polite, Master Liaoyuan. I was just talking nonsense. Just listen to it, don't really believe it."

Master Liaoyuan asked ten questions, "I will ask you one last question. What do you think of the heart of a bodhisattva and the angry-eyed vajra?"

Shen Ruyi thought for a moment before answering,

“Look at the Bodhisattvas in the temple. The reason they have such kind hearts is that they are accompanied by the wrathful Vajra guardians who silently guard them.

Without the means of the wrathful Vajra, having a kind heart like a bodhisattva is useless and very fatal.

Just like if the abilities in your hands cannot support your ambitions, there will definitely be backlash.

Of course, having the angry eyes of a Vajra alone is not enough without a kind heart of a bodhisattva.

Personally, I think one should possess both qualities at the same time, having the heart of a bodhisattva and the angry eyes of a vajra.

Those who should be saved should be saved, and those who should be killed should be killed.

If you don't kill some people, more people may die. Killing the right people is also a way of saving lives.

Just like the medicine in the doctor's hand, it can be both a life-saving medicine and a deadly poison. Whether it is a medicine or a poison depends entirely on the amount used by the user. "

Master Liaoyuan stood up and bowed to Shen Ruyi, "I already know the answer. I have learned a lot today. Amitabha!"

Shen Ruyi was so scared that she jumped up and dodged.

"Master, don't do this. Aren't you shortening my life? You dare to worship me, but you don't even think about whether I dare to accept it. It's too scary."

"Little donor, you are worthy of my respect."

"How could I not know? I am worthy of your worship. Did you come to me today just to chat?"

"Yes and no. I will give you a pair of Buddhist beads. Wear them every day."

As he spoke, Master Liaoyuan took out a string of Buddhist beads from his wrist and handed it over.

Shen Ruyi took it with both hands. Is this considered a benefit for time travelers, that everyone gets one?

A string of Buddhist beads belonging to a senior monk.

Master, isn't this a bit hasty? Why don't you think about it and decide whether to give it to me or not?

When you gave it to me, I felt really nervous.

Based on Shen Ruyi's experience of reading novels, whenever there is such an arrangement, there is a high probability that the bracelet will be used later.

Either to calm his unstable soul, or to save his life?

Whatever the situation, I don't want to experience it.

I am just a small fry, I just want to live in peace and health till old age.

Shen Ruyi opened her mouth, wanting to ask a lot of questions, but before she could finish her words, she asked, "Isn't this a bit too expensive?"

I don’t know what material it is made of, but it’s obvious that the owner has played with it every day and it has become patinaed.

"Little donor, take it. It will be good for you."

"Okay, I'll listen to you."

Upon hearing that it would be beneficial to her, Shen Ruyi immediately changed her attitude.

Listen to the elders and eat in peace.

Living peacefully is the most important thing!
