Chapter 124 Divorce Agreement (1)
Chapter 124 Divorce Agreement (1)
Murong Xuewei nodded and turned to leave. Xiao Sining watched her retreating figure, a smug smile playing on her lips.
Inside the prison, Gu Ye saw Murong Xuewei's arrival and a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes. "Xuewei, what brings you here?"
Murong Xuewei forced a smile, fighting back tears, and said, "General, I've come to see you. Don't worry, I've already thought of a way to get you out of here."
Gu Ye frowned. "Xue Wei, you haven't done anything foolish, have you?"
Murong Xuewei shook her head. "No, don't worry. General, promise me you'll take good care of yourself."
Seeing his wife's hesitant expression, Gu Ye felt a sense of unease. "Xue Wei, what exactly are you...?"
Murong Xuewei interrupted him, "General, time is running out. I... I just want to tell you that no matter what happens, I will always love you."
After saying that, she turned and ran out of the prison, leaving Gu Ye looking puzzled.
After leaving the prison, Murong Xuewei finally couldn't hold back her tears. She knew this might be the last time she saw Gu Ye as his wife. But to save Gu Ye, she had no other choice.
Inside the palace, Xiao Wan Ning and Xiao Si Ning were plotting something.
“Sister,” Xiao Wan Ning said with a smile, “I didn’t expect your trick to actually work. Murong Xue Wei actually agreed to a divorce.”
Xiao Sining said smugly, "Sister, this is just the first step. Next, we will..."
Just then, a maid rushed in, "Princess, something terrible has happened! General Gu, he..."
Xiao Sining's expression changed. "What's wrong?"
The maid trembled as she said, "General Gu... General Gu has been poisoned in prison!"
Xiao Sining lifted her skirt and ran out of the room, with her maidservant quickly following.
Xiao Si Ning didn't see it, but the moment she left, Xiao Wan Ning behind her curled up a cold smile.
"My dear sister, you must make the most of the opportunity I've created for you!"
The air in the prison was cold and damp. Gu Ye lay on the hard wooden planks, feeling all the strength drain from his body. He knew he had been poisoned, but he didn't know who had done it. Just as his consciousness was fading, the cell door was suddenly pushed open.
"General Gu!" Xiao Sining rushed in in a panic. "Quick, quick, someone, carry General Gu out!"
Gu Ye struggled to open his eyes and saw Xiao Sining's anxious face. He wanted to speak, but found that he didn't even have the strength to move his lips.
"Don't speak," Xiao Sining said softly. "I'll take you to get treatment right away." She turned to the guards behind her and said, "Remember, don't let anyone know about this, especially Murong Xuewei!"
Gu Ye's heart tightened upon hearing his wife's name. He wanted to tell Xiao Si Ning and let Xue Wei know, but he was too weak to speak. In his last moments before losing consciousness, Xue Wei's worried face appeared in his mind.
Inside the General's mansion, Murong Xuewei was restless. Ever since Gu Ye was imprisoned, she had been uneasy. Although she had agreed to Xiao Sining's conditions for a divorce, she still felt that things weren't so simple.
"Madam," Liuli rushed in, "news just came that General Gu has been taken to Princess Xiao Sining's residence!"
Murong Xuewei suddenly stood up. "What? Why is this happening?"
Liuli shook her head. "This servant doesn't know either. I only heard that General Gu seems to be ill."
Without a word, Murong Xuewei threw on her coat and headed out, saying, "I'm going to the Princess's residence right now."
"Madam!" Liuli stopped her, "I'm afraid it's not appropriate for you to go now. After all..."
Murong Xuewei stopped and gave a bitter smile. "You're right. I've already agreed to a divorce, so I really shouldn't bother you anymore." She turned and went back to her room, saying softly, "Liuli, could you go and find out about General Gu's situation for me?"
Liuli nodded and turned to leave. Murong Xuewei stood by the window, gazing in the direction of the Princess's residence in the distance, her heart filled with mixed emotions. She recalled every moment she had shared with Gu Ye, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"General," she murmured softly, "you must be safe and sound."
Inside the princess's residence, Xiao Sining stayed by Gu Ye's side without leaving for a moment. The imperial physician had just finished his diagnosis, saying that Gu Ye had been poisoned by a rare toxin and would need time to recover.
“Princess,” a maid entered, “Murong Xuewei has sent someone to inquire about General Gu’s situation.”
A cold glint flashed in Xiao Sining's eyes. "Tell them that General Gu is well and there is nothing to worry about."
The maid hesitated, then said, "Then...should we let Madam take a look?"
"No need!" Xiao Sining said sharply, then softened her tone, "General Gu needs to rest now and should not receive guests."
The maid nodded and withdrew. Xiao Sining turned to look at the unconscious Gu Ye, a complex expression flashing in her eyes. She gently stroked Gu Ye's cheek and whispered, "Gu Ye, don't worry, I will take good care of you."
Just then, Gu Ye frowned slightly, as if he was about to wake up. Xiao Sining quickly took a step back, watching him nervously.
Gu Ye slowly opened his eyes, his gaze somewhat dazed. He looked around and weakly asked, "Where...is this? Where's Xue Wei?"
Xiao Sining felt a pang of pain in her heart, but forced herself to speak, "Gu Ye, you're in my princess's residence. As for Murong Xuewei..." She paused, then hardened her heart and said, "She said she doesn't want to see you again."
Gu Ye sat up abruptly, but then collapsed again due to weakness. He looked at Xiao Si Ning in disbelief, "This is impossible... Xue Wei, she..."
Xiao Sining feigned sympathy, saying, "General Gu, I know this is hard to accept. But Murong Xuewei did say that she has decided to divorce you and doesn't want any further involvement."
Gu Ye closed his eyes, his heart aching. He didn't want to believe Xue Wei would treat him like this, but given the current situation, he couldn't be sure of the truth.
Seeing Gu Ye deep in thought, Xiao Sining was secretly pleased. She said gently, "General Gu, you need to rest now. Please don't hesitate to ask if you need anything."
Gu Ye nodded weakly and said, "Thank you, Princess. I'd like to... be alone for a while."
Xiao Sining tactfully left the room, but before closing the door, she glanced back at Gu Ye, a smug smile flashing in her eyes.
Inside the General's Mansion, Murong Xuewei received the message brought back by Liuli, which made her even more uneasy.
“Liuli,” she asked in a deep voice, “are you sure that’s what the people from the Princess’s residence said?”
Liuli nodded. "Yes, Madam. They said General Gu is fine and there's nothing to worry about."
Murong Xuewei frowned, "Why won't you let me see him?"
Liuli said in a low voice, "They said... General Gu doesn't want to see anyone right now."
Murong Xuewei felt a pang of pain in her heart, but quickly regained her composure. She knew there must be something fishy going on. But now, she had to write the divorce papers as agreed.
“Liuli,” Murong Xuewei took a deep breath, “go prepare the pen and ink, I need to write a divorce agreement.”
Liuli looked at her mistress in surprise, "Madam, have you really made up your mind?"
Murong Xuewei nodded, a resolute glint in her eyes, "For the General's safety, I have no other choice."
