Chapter 64 Recruiting People
Chapter 64 Recruiting People
After the two took the elevator back to the ground floor, Yuri, who needed to change his dressing due to his leg injury, went directly back to his ward in the main medical building.
After sending Yuri back to the hospital, Lu Ye confirmed the direction and headed straight for the bar called Rusty Shells.
The only place Vasily could point to with his drinking gesture in this camp was this bar.
Pushing open the heavy, soundproof iron door of the bar, a mixture of alcohol, sweat, cheap perfume, and tobacco wafted out.
The walls are bare cement, and large ventilation ducts crisscross overhead.
Four burly men stood on either side of the gate, each holding a Remington shotgun.
A huge sign painted in red on the wall reads: "No firearms allowed."
After being searched by the burly man, Lu Ye entered the bar.
The bar looked like it was welded from the side armor of a tank, and the base of the bar stool was even made from a 152mm howitzer shell casing.
Under the dim yellow light, the heavy metal rock music was deafening.
The prices in the bar were exactly what camp robbery standards looked like.
Lu Ye walked to the bar and glanced at the drinks menu: a glass of the most ordinary draft beer cost twenty dollars, while a small glass of pure vodka without water was priced at fifty dollars.
Lu Ye ordered a twenty-dollar draft beer, took the glass, and walked to a corner booth with a good view to sit down.
Before long, he noticed that the mercenaries in the bar were not all drinking and chatting.
A large number of people, as soon as they enter, skillfully navigate through the crowded dance floor and head straight for the back of the bar.
There was a heavy steel door guarded by two armed guards.
Lu Ye guessed that behind that door was probably the basement Yuri had mentioned.
Lu Ye didn't want to cause any more trouble; he was here today simply to keep his appointment.
Lu Ye leaned back on the sofa, sipping draft beer, his gaze calmly fixed on the entrance to the bar.
Time passed by, second by second.
I waited from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The bar was filled with different groups of people. Some of the drunk mercenaries started a brawl on the dance floor before being dragged out by security guards like dead dogs.
Vasily did not appear!
Lu Ye glanced at his watch, showing no sign of frustration.
He knew that Vasily's current position was sensitive, and working alongside such a high-ranking officer would not allow him the same freedom.
It's normal that you can't get out.
Lu Ye stood up, placed the empty glass on the table, straightened his coat, pushed open the bar's iron gate, and returned to the hospital the way he came.
-----------------
The next day, Lu Ye arrived at the Rusty Shell Bar early in the morning.
The bar in the early morning was quieter than it had been at night, the dance floor was empty, but the air still smelled strongly of tobacco and alcohol.
Lu Ye walked to the booth with the open view from yesterday, sat down, ordered the cheapest black coffee, and kept his gaze fixed on the direction of the bar's entrance.
We will continue to wait here for Vasily to appear.
Time passed by, second by second.
Lu Ye picked up the coffee cup on the table and brought it to his lips when, suddenly, with the blessing of [Perception LV1], he felt a malicious gaze upon him.
Lu Ye remained calm and instead tilted his coffee cup slightly.
Using the reflection from the coffee cup, he saw four members of the Grizzly Bear Squad sitting at a table not far behind him.
The leader was Borislav, who had clashed with the doctor in the hospital lobby.
Upon realizing that Lu Ye had seen him through the glass, Borislav did not flinch. Instead, he let out a cold laugh without any attempt to hide it, raised his glass, and waved it at Lu Ye from a distance.
Lu Ye looked away and silently put down his coffee cup, not wanting to cause any further trouble.
However, footsteps came from behind.
Boris Laffey pulled out the chair opposite Lu Ye and sat down.
Lu Ye raised his head and looked at him calmly.
"Why are you alone? Where are Yuri and the others?" Borislav asked, seeing Lu Ye's indifferent gaze.
Lu Ye continued to look at him without saying a word.
Borislav felt a little uneasy under Lu Ye's gaze, so he crossed his hands on the table and leaned forward: "I heard that you killed the enemy's highest commander with a single shot during the assault in Kalinovka."
Lu Ye's pupils contracted slightly, and he was startled: How did this bald man know?
Seeing that Lu Ye's gaze had finally changed, Borislav smirked.
Before Lu Ye could speak, he continued, "Furthermore, I've also heard that your Black Scythe Squad's profits this time are quite substantial."
Lu Ye's expression darkened, and his gaze sharpened: "How did you know?"
Borislav leaned back in his chair, smiling, and spread his hands: "Oh, you can talk! I thought you were mute!"
"Strictly speaking, we are all employees of The Undertaker. This news must have spread very quickly."
"Then what's the point of you sitting here now?" Lu Ye asked in return.
Borislav raised his wine glass and clinked it against Lu Ye's coffee cup, making a crisp "ding" sound.
"Want to work for me? My Grizzly squad is in need of a top-notch sniper. If you're willing to come, I can provide you with a set of top-of-the-line sniper gear."
"A brand new Lobaev Arms DVL-10 high-precision tactical silenced sniper rifle, equipped with Swarovski's latest electro-optical rangefinder scope, plus a complete set of specialized ammunition. This set is worth at least $20,000 on the market. If you agree, consider it my personal support."
Lu Ye sneered inwardly: Twenty thousand US dollars? Yuri offered fifty thousand US dollars right off the bat. They can't even poach someone properly, and they don't even bother to find out what other people are offering.
Lu Ye looked at Borislav's face, a hesitant expression on his face, his brows furrowing slightly: "Isn't this a bit inappropriate? I just joined the Black Scythe Squad, and the formalities were just completed yesterday."
"If you make me quit now, won't my reputation be completely ruined? Besides, would the company's upper management agree to this kind of poaching between small teams?"
After he finished speaking, Lu Ye saw a surprised expression on Borislav's face, as if he hadn't expected Lu Ye to agree so easily.
"What's wrong? Is it difficult to handle?"
Seeing this, Borislav immediately said, "You don't need to worry about that at all! I'll personally communicate with the company's upper management! I'll announce publicly that it was the company that arranged for you to join. I won't make things difficult for you!"
Lu Ye remained hesitant, tapping his fingers lightly on the table: "That DVL-10 set you mentioned earlier... is it also being given to me completely for free?"
Borislav's facial muscles twitched suddenly.
"Why not? But... the sniper rifle I'm using right now was provided to me by Captain Yuri for free."
When Borislav heard this, he assumed it was an ordinary SVD sniper rifle that Yuri had given him.
So he said, "The SVD sniper rifle is worthless, less than ten thousand US dollars!"
Lu Ye glanced at Borislav and said, "Who said it was an SVD sniper rifle? Yuri gave me the SVCh high-precision sniper rifle."
"impossible!"
Lu Ye picked up his coffee and silently watched him.
Borislav realized that what Lu Ye said was probably true.
So he gritted his teeth and said, "It's free! And I think the DVL-10 is more suitable for you. Its integrated top-of-the-line suppressor has no muzzle flash, no supersonic blast, and is purely mechanically bolt-action, making you less likely to be detected."
