Chapter 381: Inheritance IssuesAlwin doesn’t call Ferdinand ’Father’ or ’Stepfather’ but ’My lord’ instead.

Thus, he can just call Arabella ’My Lady’ or something like that once she begins living in Estrella.

Just her name would be fine too, but it might make Ferdinand jealous.

"Are you sick after all?" Ferdinand frowned when he heard Alwin’s cough.

Ferdinand gave Alwin the following days to rest and Riley took over his tasks in Medeus.

He also instructed Alwin to tell Zion to go to the Magic Tower and take over his tasks there.

Ferdinand was convinced Alwin may have been overworked which was why he was showing signs of getting sick.

Alwin, meanwhile, wasn’t that happy to get a break.

But he did like the idea of being able to spend some time focused on his experiments since he wouldn’t be able to do it once he departed to Evania’s homeland.

"Did he say anything offensive to you?"

Ferdinand inquired when he was sure Alwin had indeed left.

’He did.

He said a lot.

And I did too.’

Arabella wouldn’t tell since she also did the same. And it was something about the past only the two of them could remember.

"No. I’m fine. You don’t have to worry," Arabella replied and Ferdinand looked even more worried.

"Arabella, Alwin is a child I picked up right after I was awakened from hibernation. I swear he is not my child from someone else from the past or something like that," Ferdinand said out of the blue.

Arabella stared at him. She almost choked on her own spit.

"Hahaha," she couldn’t help herself from laughing.

"You already told me last time.

And I heard it from your thoughts, so I know Alwin is a pureblood elf.

Why are you suddenly saying something like that?

Do you have a child you are hiding from me?"

"No. I just thought you might be bothered by Alwin since I raised him from childhood.

Just like you said last time, I’m akin to Alwin’s adoptive father.

So, you are like his stepmother now that we are married.

I recently heard children and their stepmothers usually do not get along.

Just like Demetrius and Duke Olivier’s second wife."

He heard about it from other kings who had concubines whose wives and children fight for power and attention.

Ferdinand, it’s not like that at all.

I will not be cruel to Alwin like that," Arabella pouted.

How can Ferdinand even compare her to that Sonia?

’I might tease him now and then.

I was just worried you might think Alwin was secretly a biological child of mine but was keeping it from you.

Or that having Alwin near you might irk you since there could be inheritance issues later."

"Inheritance issues?" Arabella tilted her head to the side.

"What do you mean?"

[Oh, it never crossed her mind.]

Ferdinand smiled and wrapped an arm around her waist.

[Raymond and the others said that women are wary of those who could steal what was supposed to be for their children.

We don’t have a child yet.

But she might begin to worry once we have one.]

"I mean once we have children.

Alwin might become a pain to your eyes due to inheritance issues.

When I went into hibernation, Raymond took care of my territory, and back then, I thought he could have it.

But Raymond has a territory of his own so he would eventually leave and stay there with his wife and children.

And after I raised Alwin, I thought I would give him my territory instead once I hibernate again.

But now that we are married, that’s not possible anymore since we would also have children of our own."

"Oh, right.

Even if we leave Valeria, there could still be inheritance issues if we have more than one child.

And you already have Alwin," Arabella nodded her head in understanding.

His whole island was supposed to be just yours.’

Arabella wanted to tell Alwin about this right away, but he was already gone.

She knew though that Alwin would likely reply that he doesn’t care about the island but Ferdinand’s happiness instead.

But once Alwin gets married and had his own children, he would also need a place to settle down.

He doesn’t care about it now since he hadn’t even thought about getting married yet.

But someday, he would also want a place he could call his own.

"I will make a separate island for Alwin so please don’t fear that he would get what was supposed to be for our children," Ferdinand assured her.

But it made Arabella gawk instead.

"You can make an entire island?!"

"Yes. My island in Estrella was my own making.

It used to be just ice sheets.

Water from the ocean I had frozen.

But I gradually made it into an island when I learned Earth Dragon magic.

It’s been quite a while since then, but I think I can still do it.

I will make an island for Alwin wherever he wants in Estrella, and he can develop it on his own.

He could easily gain his own assets with his current abilities too.

So, you don’t have to worry about inheritance issues in the future," Ferdinand explained as if what he said was nothing important.

’Isn’t that even more of an issue?

You are making an island, especially for Alwin,’ Arabella wanted to say.

She doesn’t really have an issue with it though since Alwin was important to Ferdinand.

And Alwin was her important ally too.

Fermin would probably not get jealous as well since he would inherit Ferdinand’s Island instead.

"It’s alright.

I won’t meddle with that.

I wasn’t even worried.

Alwin is indeed your responsibility, so you must take good care of him.

And all I want is a place where our children can grow safe and sound," Arabella assured her husband and he smiled.
