Chapter 85 Winter Has Arrived
Chapter 85 Winter Has Arrived
Feng finally returned ten days after Ye left. He rushed back home and immediately hugged Lin Ni, then kissed her passionately for a while before saying, "Lin, I'm back."
Lin Ni hugged him back: "Feng, it's so good to see you back safe and sound!"
Feng's burning gaze seemed to want to meld Lin Ni into his own body. He reached out and touched her lips, which were slightly swollen from his kisses: "I want you!"
Linni blushed, especially in front of Bai! "Don't you need to report this situation to the clan leader?"
Feng scooped her up in his arms and said, "We'll go later!" He then carried her into the room.
Bai stopped him and said under Feng's murderous gaze, "I just wanted to remind you that you'd better take a shower first. Look how dirty you are, you stink. I don't know if you've taken a shower in the thirty days you've been away."
Feng looked down at himself, blushed a little, and put Lin Ni down: "Then wait for me, I'll be right back."
Linni nodded: "Mm!"
Feng dashed out like a gust of wind. Lin Ni smiled at Bai; she had just been immersed in the joy of reuniting with Feng after so long, and now, thinking back, she felt a little embarrassed: "Bai, thank goodness you reminded me!"
Bai gave her a big smile: "Then Lin should treat me even better, just put me third in the list."
Linni sat on the kang (a heated brick bed). Because of the rain, they hadn't gone out today, and they had heated the kang while making lunch, so it was quite warm now. Linni looked up and asked him, "Why are you the third one?"
Bai sat next to her, hugged her, and whispered in her ear, "Your first and second favorites are definitely Yao and Ye, so I'll be third."
Lin Ni smiled and gave him a sideways glance: "So you're just competing with Feng for it."
Bai said, "Feng Kong has a lot of brute strength, but he doesn't actually know anything."
Linni looked at him disapprovingly: "No way! He handles most of the things in the tribe."
Bai nodded: "He did a good job. Let him do those things. I'll stay home and take care of you."
Lin Ni laughed and playfully slapped him a few times. "You really dare to think that way!" The two had only exchanged a few words when Feng returned, soaking wet. He grabbed Bai, who was clinging to Lin Ni, and threw him out. Then he covered the wooden board by the door—it was something Ye had just made to keep the cold winter winds out.
Lin Ni was a little scared by his hurried manner: "Feng, don't hurt Bai."
Feng came over and hugged Lin Ni: "Ignore that troublesome guy!" Then he kissed her. His breath was so hot it was a little scary. Lin Ni trembled and whispered: "Be gentle, I'm a little scared."
Feng stiffened for a moment, then continued kissing her, his movements becoming much gentler, and responded with a nasal sound: "Mmm!"
It was another afternoon of intense fighting! After two rounds of fierce battles, Lin Ni's back and legs ached, while Feng was satisfied: "You take a nap. I'll go tell Father about the operation first, and then I'll come back to keep you company tonight."
Linni glanced at him, weakly replying, "Okay." Why do people say a man is fierce, like a wolf or a tiger? There's a reason for that! Truly a tiger!
After Feng left, Bai came in and glanced at Lin Ni a few times. Seeing that she was asleep, he went out again.
Feng's return brought a different kind of vitality to Lin Ni's cozy little home. Before, when Yao, Bai, and Yan were the three partners, they were very harmonious and friendly. Feng's return somewhat disrupted this harmony. Lin Ni felt that there was a slight undercurrent between Feng and Bai. They seemed to dislike each other. However, she could treat the little frictions in life as fun.
Autumn on the Orcish Continent ended quite clearly. A strong wind blew for three whole days, making it difficult to walk. Even Linni, an outsider, knew that autumn was coming to an end. Bai and his group were still out on that windy day, but they didn't bring back much prey. Linni guessed they were trying to eat as much as possible before winter arrived.
After three days of strong winds, it started raining at night. It rained in the first half of the night and turned into snow in the second half. The howling wind made the trees outside rustle loudly for the past few days, and Lin Ni didn't sleep well. She was only able to get a good night's sleep when the wind finally stopped.
On the first day of winter, Lin Ni woke up in Yao's arms. Even though she was sleeping on the warm kang (heated brick bed), she could still feel the air in the room getting colder. She climbed out of the warm quilt, but immediately lay back down. It was really cold!
Yao said from the side, "Get dressed before you get up."
Bai handed her the clothes from the other side: "These are warm. Do you want me to help you put them on?" After Ye left, Bai successfully slept in his spot. Only Yao, Bai, and Yan were there at the time, so Yan couldn't compete with him! When Feng returned, Yan automatically gave up Feng's original spot and slept behind Bai. Feng looked at Bai's smug face and really wanted to beat him up, but he hid behind Lin Ni, so he decided not to fight him.
Linni put on long sleeves and trousers in bed before getting up. Pushing open the dining room door, she looked outside. It was still snowing lightly, and the whole mountain was dressed in a silvery white—it was beautiful! However, the temperature outside was too low; after peeking through the crack in the door for a while, she felt a chill on her face. Turning back to the four men, who were unusually all home, she asked, "Now that it's winter, you're all not going out hunting, are you?"
Feng said, "We'll go out in a couple of days. We don't need to go every day." Then he turned to Yao and Bai and said, "But we still need to participate in the tribe's patrol missions."
Yao nodded: "Okay. So, what about the blessing ceremony? Are there any more?"
Linni also looked up at Feng. She was used to praying for blessings, but if it was raining or snowing, it would be really uncomfortable to pray outdoors for several hours.
Feng looked at Lin Ni and said, "The bonfire party will not be held in winter. Instead, all the tribespeople will go to the Beast God Stele to pray for blessings every ten days. It's voluntary. If the weather is good, you can go and participate."
"Okay." Lin Ni ate breakfast, then put on an extra long dress and coat before going outside with them.
A biting wind howled, frequently lashing at them, while small snowflakes occasionally fluttered down from the sky, like dancing butterflies. The hexagonal snowflakes came in all shapes and sizes, a truly beautiful sight. On the ground, they seemed to carpet the earth with a thick blanket; on the trees, they looked like they were wearing white coats. Everywhere was a silver-clad wonderland, a breathtakingly beautiful scene. This was winter in the Orcish Continent, a beautiful and serene morning.
Linni was immersed in the fresh air. She reached out and caught a few crystal-clear snowflakes. The snowflakes were as delicate as works of art, but they quickly melted into water in her hand, leaving only a cold sensation.
Yao came over and helped her put on the hood of her coat, holding her cold hands in his: "Don't catch a cold!"
Lin Ni reluctantly shifted her gaze from the beautiful scenery before her and looked at Yao: "This snow-covered landscape of overlapping mountains is so beautiful!"
