Chapter 306: For the "Heavenly Book"

Chapter 306: For the "Heavenly Book"

After flying for about an hour, the armed helicopter could see a long mountain range, one of which was quite high, with an altitude of over 2,460 meters. This was the Garhepigen Mountain in N country.

Lefia remembered that Jess had said the "Book of the Gods" was near Mount Galhepigen, and she couldn't help but feel excited.

As the plane flew to the summit of Mount Galhepigen, Lefia noticed a large, flat area at the top. To the north of this area, she seemed to see ruins. A sense of loss washed over Lefia; she realized that this was the Temple of the Gods and the Plaza of the Gods, its former glory now dust, and the ancient gods now just memories.

The armed helicopter lowered a steel cable, and nine people slid down one by one, landing on the relatively flat Pantheon. Around the plaza, remnants of the city walls still stood. Looking down from the walls, Lefia could see clouds drifting by. Several soldiers began clearing the relatively flat area in the center of the plaza with tools, after which the armed helicopter landed.

More than twenty drones flew out of the armed helicopter. Some of these drones were combat drones, and some were reconnaissance drones. They flew in different directions, and some even flew towards distant mountain peaks.

The nine people headed north along a path full of rubble and sure enough, they saw the ruins. The female soldier was filming the whole way with a camera.

Everyone seemed to be in a myth, remaining silent for fear that speaking would awaken a giant god.

The Pantheon had clearly been ravaged by war, so there were signs of decay everywhere, and occasionally a few stones with a metallic sheen could be seen.

"Danger! Get down!"

A soldier suddenly shouted, startling everyone, who immediately dropped to the ground.

Jess glanced up and saw a rocket launcher with smoke trailing behind it sweep over everyone's heads, directly destroying the armed helicopter parked in the center of Pantheon Square. The explosion sent flames shooting into the sky.

A drone flew toward the direction from which the rocket launcher was coming. Soon, the drone transmitted images showing that in a plain north of the Pantheon, an off-road vehicle was speeding toward the edge of a cliff, while another off-road vehicle remained stationary.

Suddenly, the footage transmitted by the drones showed that many small drones flew out of the moving SUV, and the drone swarm flew upwards in dense formation.

Jess was taken aback. He knew that these small drones were combat drones, each equipped with a heavy machine gun.

Jess had no choice but to order the recall of some of his own combat drones to prepare for combat against the enemy drone swarm and to buy time to escape.

Jess led the group in a frantic run down the mountain. Soon, they heard the sound of machine guns firing, and the two sides began exchanging fire with their drones.

Fortunately, Jess brought the latest combat drones with strong protective shields developed and produced by the United States. After being attacked by a group of enemy drones, it was not at a disadvantage at all and even shot down more than a dozen enemy drones.

Jess and his men had no time to pay attention to the drone/aircraft combat situation; they just ran wildly down the mountain.

Jess seemed to feel he had run enough, so he immediately slowed down and ordered a special forces soldier to set up a communicator, which quickly made contact with the military base.

Jess informed the base commander of the situation and location, requesting fire support and rescue.

Jess and his team found cover at the bottom of a ditch in the woods. The "rat-a-tat-tat" of the machine gun fire gradually subsided, followed by the buzzing of a swarm of drones. Jess and his five special forces soldiers stood ready with their machine guns. Just as Jess was about to give the order to fire, the drones turned around and went back. Jess and his team breathed a sigh of relief.

About ten minutes later, two fighter jets roared over the woods, followed by two loud explosions. Soon after, the two fighter jets quickly returned.

Jess and the others cheered, and then they seemed to hear a series of explosions not far away, with streaks of fire flashing in the air. It was the drone swarm self-destructing.

Jess and the others rushed up the mountain and found the wreckage of the drone. The drone was scattered with many blades. A special forces soldier picked up a blade, weighed it in his hand, and then glanced at the color and other aspects of the blade.

"Colonel, I'm quite certain that this is a domestically produced small military drone."

Jess and Lefia were shocked. Country C had also discovered ruins and excavated a mythical site? Jess knew that Country M and Country C were currently in a state of hostility and neither side would back down.

When Jess and his team reached the edge of the cliff, they indeed saw two sparks on the plain. This time, their two fighter jets had destroyed two off-road vehicles and indirectly destroyed a large number of enemy drones. It was likely that the action team he was leading would face retaliation from Country C, and the team's future would certainly be difficult.

A special forces soldier opens a curved screen, which displays eight or nine moving red dots, showing the flight position and relative distance of friendly drones/aircraft. The soldier clicks on each red dot, and each drone/aircraft represented by the red dot transmits its image to the curved screen host.

"Wait, what's that?" Lefia's sharp eyes caught something unusual.

The special forces soldier zoomed in on the scene, which was a mountain peak with lush bushes at its foot. However, Lefia noticed a clear dividing line between the bushes.

The special forces soldier started pointing at the screen, and soon the drone transmitted a clear close-up image. The dividing line was actually an arch shape.

"A cave?" Pick Cao asked.

“Very likely,” Jess said excitedly. “Ryan, how far is this place from here?”

Private Ryan glanced at the screen. "Sir, the straight-line distance is approximately three kilometers."

Jess glanced at the sun, which had already set. Since it was August, it was still light outside. Jess estimated that it would be completely dark in another two and a half hours.

"Ryan, confirm the direction and location of that cave, let's head over there."

"Yes, sir."

Ryan took a disc out of his backpack, fiddled with the needle a few times, and then nodded to Jess.

Jess began leading everyone down the mountain. Because the mountain was quite steep and their backpacks and guns were heavy, everyone proceeded with great care.

Despite being a woman, Lefia descended the mountain steadily and quickly, no less so than the special forces. This was probably due to her long-term training in archaeological excavations. In contrast, Pick Cao, John, and Henry were not as fast as Lefia; they were already out of breath after less than half an hour. Jess ordered a five-minute rest.

By the time the ten men safely reached the foot of the mountain, it was already dark. Two special forces soldiers searched for water and found a drinkable stream. The ten men set up tents in the nearby woods to rest. Each filled their canteen with water, and each carried military rations, enough to last a month. Ryan, the special forces soldier in charge of the drones, recalled the other eight drones, leaving only the one in the cave three kilometers away.

Ryan disassembled the eight drones and then repackaged them.

After a quick wash at the stream, everyone went into their tents to rest, with the five special forces soldiers taking turns on guard duty.

As dawn broke, Jess led the group on a brisk walk, stopping for breakfast at one point before continuing. About forty minutes later, they reached the cave at the boundary of the bushes. The reconnaissance drone was parked at the cave entrance, in a dormant state. It took off again as Jess and the others entered the cave.

Rena used the reconnaissance drone to carefully examine the cave arch, and then began to place high-yield remote-controlled bombs inside the cave arch using the drone.

The ten men retreated three hundred meters, and Charles, the demolition expert, pressed the button. With a deafening roar, the sealed cave was blasted open, and stones cascaded down.

Ryan began remotely controlling the drone, guiding it into the cave. The drone's infrared imaging revealed a huge golden door at the cave entrance—a door made of gold!

Upon hearing that the doors were made of gold, Lefia chuckled and said, "Colonel Jess, let's take apart these gold doors with the ten of us." The others burst into laughter.

"Captain Jones, what's wrong?" Jess saw Jones turn his back and look up at the southwest sky.

"Oh my god!" Jess shouted. The others, not knowing what was going on, all turned around and were dumbfounded when they saw what was happening.

In the low southwest sky, four or five fireballs streaked across the sky at incredible speeds, and their trajectories seemed to be changing!

"Hypersonic missile! Damn C country people!" Jess roared. He knew that the place to the southwest was the M country's military base in N country.

The communications soldier quickly set up communication equipment, and three minutes later Jess called the military base, but there was no response. Lefia and the others showed anger on their faces. After all, C Country's use of a space-based mobile space station to launch a hypersonic missile and launch a surprise attack on M Country's military base in N Country was tantamount to declaring war on M Country.

No one expected that after their fighter jets shot down the off-road vehicles and drone swarm yesterday, Country C's retaliatory strike would be an attack on a military base. Country C's move seemed far too drastic. Jess and his team didn't know whether Country C had attacked military bases in Country M or elsewhere.

Jess began sending another coded telegram to the Department of Defense. Defense Secretary James's voice came through: "Jess, get the 'Book of Heaven' as soon as possible. The people of Country C are willing to go to war with us for the 'Book of Heaven.' They've broadcast a video at the UN accusing you of firing on them first." Defense Secretary James seemed somewhat annoyed. President Smith hadn't ordered an immediate retaliation against Country C, and now the various countries at the UN were divided and taking sides.

Jess was stunned; he had actually fallen into the trap set by the Chinese.

"Sir, we will definitely complete the mission. We are now at the entrance of the cave where the 'Heavenly Book' is hidden."

"Alright, I'll give you two days. In two days, this mountain will be completely leveled. We must not let the 'Heavenly Book' fall into the hands of the people of Country C. Your action team, go to the nearest city in Country N. Someone will meet you there."

"Yes, sir."

James cut off the communications, and Jess signaled the demolition expert to scout ahead. The demolition expert slowly entered the cave, turned on his flashlight, and saw a four-meter-high golden door. He took out his knife and scratched the door, confirming that it was indeed made of gold. The demolition expert dug at the ground with his knife; it seemed relatively soft, which pleased him. He then called for Colonel Jess and the others to come over.

Ten people started digging a tunnel, and then used small bombs to blow it up. By 5 p.m., an underground passage was completed.

When the ten people emerged from the tunnel one after another, they were stunned by what they saw. Inside the huge cave, there were many gold nuggets neatly arranged. Each gold nugget was engraved with tadpole-like characters, and there were even Arabic numerals in the lower right corner of each gold nugget!

Lefia was already captivated by the tadpole-like characters and couldn't help but mutter them to herself, while Pick Cao looked at Lefia with a puzzled expression.

"Dr. Cao, come with me." After saying that, Lefia grabbed a flashlight and ran quickly according to the numbered gold nuggets. Peak Cao quickly followed Lefia.
