Chapter 6 Pioneering
Chapter 6 Pioneering
Zhang Yunling and his son Zhang He successfully moved into the thatched hut where Chu Yanbing lived.
Although the room was simple and had few pieces of furniture, they were all arranged neatly, making it feel comfortable and warm, which was enough to show the simplicity of Chu Yanbing's daily life.
The house was only separated from the town by a river. If he wanted to go into town to buy something, it was only a short walk away, which was quite easy for Zhang He, whose body had fully recovered.
After everything was arranged, Zhang Yunling approached Chu Yanbing and asked urgently, "Miss Chu, I have a question I would like to ask for an answer to."
Chu Yanbing snapped out of her meditative state, looked up at him, and replied, "What is it?"
Zhang Yunling rubbed his hands together and chuckled, "How can I soar freely between heaven and earth like Miss Chu?"
Chu Yanbing laughed upon hearing this, "You're only at the second level of Qi Refining now, how can you fly freely between heaven and earth? This is a skill that requires at least the fifth level of Qi Refining to barely master. Cultivators circulate their spiritual energy throughout their bodies, establishing a connection between themselves and heaven and earth, thereby controlling their own flight."
"You currently lack sufficient spiritual energy to sustain your flight, so stop aiming too high and focus on cultivating diligently."
Zhang Yunling was once again enlightened, nodding repeatedly in agreement, and then sat down cross-legged to practice breathing exercises. After entering a meditative state, the entire day seemed to pass in the blink of an eye for the two of them, and night had already fallen.
Zhang Yunling was the first to lose his composure, breaking free from his meditation and jumping up from the grass. He turned to Chu Yanbing and asked, "Miss Chu, do cultivators have to meditate like this every day? It's too boring. Why don't we find something to do?"
Upon hearing this, Chu Yanbing slowly opened her closed eyes, revealing a pair of beautiful crimson pupils. As if she had just emerged from her meditation, she seemed to have gained some insight but had been interrupted, and her expression appeared unusually cold.
Just like her name suggests, she possessed a face that could launch a thousand ships. Though captivatingly beautiful, her icy expression made her seem like a pure white lotus untouched by worldly affairs. Chu Yanbing turned to Zhang Yunling and asked, "Could it be that you're ready?"
"Uh...you mean..." Zhang Yunling suddenly felt inexplicably nervous, and Chu Yanbing also stood up from the grass and slowly said:
"Now you can barely be considered a cultivator. Although, in general, meditation and cultivation are enough to reach the tenth level, you have now lost your official status in the mortal world. Without a source of income, it will be very difficult to survive."
Zhang Yunling listened attentively and asked, "So what should we do now?" Chu Yanbing patted the gray cloth bag at her waist with her left hand, and two objects flew out and landed in her palm.
“First of all, each cultivator needs to carry their own belongings. The small bag in my hand is a storage bag with a length, width and height of about one zhang, which is one square zhang of space. Although it is not big, it is enough for you now.”
Zhang Yunling took the storage bag, examined it carefully, and treated it as if it were a treasure. He imitated Chu Yanbing and hung it on his waist. His silly and cute posture made Chu Yanbing smile gently.
"Furthermore, this is a first-grade magic weapon-level flying sword. You can infuse it with spiritual power and use it as you wish. Once you reach the fifth level of Qi Refining, you can use it for short-distance flight."
Zhang Yunling solemnly accepted the flying sword with both hands, his eyes shining brightly. This was the proper demeanor of an immortal! Thinking of the future when he could ride on his sword and roam freely across the world, he eagerly asked:
"Miss Chu, you've given me these two treasures. Do you mean you're going to take me to do things that only cultivators can do?"
Chu Yanbing nodded and said seriously, "That's right, that's exactly what I meant. If you were just an ordinary Qi Refining Level 2 cultivator, I wouldn't have considered these things, but I've been observing you for the past few days. Your Qi Condensation speed is much, much faster than that of ordinary cultivators. Perhaps I'm right, you really are a cultivation genius."
In my opinion, even if it's a first-grade flying sword that requires the fifth level of Qi Refining to use, you should be able to use it with a barely acceptable level of cultivation, at your second level.
As Zhang Yunling listened to the other person's story, he gripped the hilt of the flying sword tightly in his hand, constantly stroking the blade and occasionally making sounds of admiration. He treated it as a precious treasure and carefully put it into his storage bag.
Chu Yanbing continued, "So, I'm going to take you to a place now, a place that can stimulate your cultivation talent." Upon hearing this, Zhang Yunling's tension, which had disappeared due to excitement, immediately returned.
However, thinking of the two treasures he had obtained that were exclusively for cultivators, he mustered his courage and replied, "In that case, I will go with Miss Chu immediately!"
Chu Yanbing nodded in satisfaction, then grasped Zhang Yunling's right hand, and the two of them transformed into a rainbow and flew into the distance. Chu Yanbing did not fly very fast; the wind around her ears was only faint, and her black robe fluttered in the wind, blending into the night and giving off an eerie feeling.
Before long, the two landed on the ground, and what appeared before their eyes was a vast forest. Every tree trunk was dark black, and even the leaves on the grass were dark green, exuding a breathtaking feeling.
Chu Yanbing took out a wooden stick from her storage bag, and with a flick of her finger, she set it ablaze, illuminating the path around them.
"This is the closest entrance to us. This place is called the Monster Forest, which is connected to an extremely vast Monster Mountain Range. However, that is not a place that you and I are qualified to set foot in. Our current goal is to enter the Monster Forest and gain some experience first."
After saying that, Chu Yanbing took Zhang Yunling's hand and walked into the woods. Zhang Yunling's previously suppressed tension was now completely overwhelmed, and fear was growing stronger inside him. He quickly grabbed Chu Yanbing and said urgently:
"Wait a minute! The Forest of Monsters? This is way too terrifying! I'm just a complete novice at cultivation. Even if Miss Chu thinks I'm a genius, I've never even killed a chicken. How could I possibly defeat a monster?"
Chu Yanbing frowned, turned around and replied, "Look at you, a dignified seven-foot man, with both cultivation and magical treasures, not to mention I'm here with you. If you really encounter a monster you can't defeat, of course I'll step in to help you kill it."
Although Zhang Yunling heard Chu Yanbing say this, he was still uneasy. After Chu Yanbing kindly persuaded him two or three times, her attitude finally changed. She glared at Zhang Yunling fiercely and squeezed out a few words through gritted teeth: "Get the hell in here! You blockhead!"
"Yes! Yes! I'll go in with you right away! I'll go first!" Zhang Yunling was startled. Compared to the demonic beasts, this usually gentle and kind girl was the most terrifying when she suddenly lost her temper.
The two of them, with a torch under their heads, continued their journey around the outer edge of the Monster Forest.
