Chapter 77: Sending Away
Chapter 77: Sending Away
Meeting those cold, emotionless eyes only intensified the chill, and before she could make a move, she was grabbed.
"Why are you so eager to run away? Could she be here too?"
"Don't talk nonsense here. I would never poison my sister. Why would I worry about where she is?"
Lin Rusi didn't say anything, but just looked at the other person with a calm gaze for a while before turning her gaze to the side.
Unexpectedly, the person who had been talking just moments before happened to come down from the second floor.
"What a coincidence."
"What a coincidence! If you continue to spout nonsense here, don't blame me for being impolite."
Lin Rusi didn't care about the threat at all, and instead bowed to the person behind her.
Sun Huier sensed something was wrong and suddenly turned her head, only to see Sun Jiayi standing behind her without her noticing.
"Sister?! This person is talking nonsense here, don't believe him."
"If you can get others to say that, then you must have done something, otherwise you wouldn't have this expression."
Sun Huier's face turned even uglier, and she wanted to run forward to deny Lin Ruqin's words, but Sun Jiayi completely ignored her.
He subtly avoided the hand and walked straight to Lin Ruqin's side.
"Miss Lin, let's not talk about this anymore."
"Since it's about Miss Sun's novel, I naturally won't mention it again, but please keep your sister in check, otherwise her mouth will cause trouble sooner or later."
Sun Jiayi nodded obediently, then took out a brocade box and presented it directly to Lin Rusi.
Knowing what this meant, she didn't accept it, but instead reached out and took the other person's arm.
"Miss Sun and I hit it off immediately. Why don't we go outside and have a chat?"
"It is better to obey than to be overly respectful. Why don't we go to that teahouse? I heard they recently received a new batch of tea."
Lin Rusi nodded and gently led the person out of Yubaozhai, heading straight to the teahouse across the street.
Neither of them spoke, but instead silently observed each other.
"Does Miss Lin have any evidence to support her claims?"
"If there really is evidence, why didn't I send it directly to the Sun residence instead of confronting Sun Hui'er there?"
It's not that there's no evidence, but it's really strange that she presented it without any investigation.
The nail that sticks out gets hammered down, especially the one who knows everything.
Although Lin Rusi thought this way, she didn't want the woman in front of her to die so tragically, so she opened her mouth again.
"Miss Sun, the dark circles under your eyes and your pale lips indicate that you are not feeling well. Why don't you ask a better doctor to take a look at you?"
"You're right."
Sun Jiayi stood up, nodded to Lin Rusi, bowed, and left.
Seeing that hurried figure, Lin Rusi lost all interest in continuing her stroll and left with her servants.
The Sun residence.
Sun Jiayi quickly walked back to her room, still wanting someone to come and take her pulse.
But before she could speak, she sensed something was wrong, her brows furrowing as she pondered the matter intently.
"Why are you back so soon today? Didn't you say you were going to pick out a gift for the old lady?"
“Father, I heard some news over there. Although I don’t know if it’s true or not, I am indeed feeling weaker today. I would like to ask you to invite the imperial physician to our residence.”
When the Duke of Jin heard his daughter's words, he couldn't help but frown. He wanted to say something more, but in the end, he nodded when he saw his daughter's pale face.
He didn't need to go to the palace to invite people; he simply sent his guards to fetch them while he sat down next to his daughter.
"Tell me in detail what exactly happened."
"I can say that, but please don't be angry. Let the imperial physician examine me first before making a decision."
Duke Jin frowned, hesitated for a moment, and then nodded, agreeing with Sun Jiayi's words.
In order to avoid Sun Huier noticing anything amiss, Sun Jiayi lowered her voice and quietly recounted everything she had heard in the building.
Are you sure that's really true?
“Miss Lin doesn’t sound like she’s lying, and…”
Sun Jiayi reached out and wiped the rouge off her face, revealing an even paler complexion, to convince him of the truth.
When the Duke of Jin saw that pale face, his brows furrowed even more, and he reached out to grasp that icy hand.
All of this made people realize that Sun Jiayi was unwell, so they got up and wanted to confront Sun Huier.
But Sun Jiayi noticed this and immediately reached out to pull the person back.
“Father, this matter is not yet confirmed. It is also possible that my illness is unrelated to my sister.”
"You're just too kind, that girl..."
Duke Jin said nothing more, sighed helplessly, and immediately turned around upon hearing footsteps behind him, inviting the imperial physician who had rushed over into the room.
But as soon as his hand touched Sun Jiayi's arm, his expression changed, and he raised his hand to take out a silver needle and stick it directly into one of her fingers.
Bright red blood dripped into the teacup.
Mixed with tea, the red blood vessels quickly dispersed, revealing faint black threads within them.
"Is this poisoning, or a slow-acting poison? It seems to be a mild case of poisoning. The blood color hasn't completely changed, but it's already a bit black. He needs to be carefully recuperated."
"Is it really poisoning?!"
The Duke of Jin's face grew increasingly grim, and he suddenly stood up to go find Sun Hui'er.
Even so, Sun Jiayi still pulled her back and carefully pressed her to the side. She felt difficulty breathing and coughed twice, covering her chest with her hand.
Seeing this, the imperial physician and the Duke of Jin both stepped forward and helped the person to sit down.
"Ms. Sun should not get too excited right now. She needs to rest well so that she can recover her health."
"Thank you, Imperial Physician. Please prescribe two doses of medicine."
The other party, having been invited over, was naturally prepared. He picked up a pen and paper, wrote down a prescription, and then turned and left.
Not long after the person left, Sun Huier secretly returned to her residence.
She wanted to find someone to explain, but found that the Duke of Jin's face was even more gloomy, and he was looking at his daughter with a fierce expression.
"father?"
"You unfilial daughter, kneel down now!"
Upon hearing this, Sun Huier couldn't help but frown. She wanted to say something more, but then she saw someone carrying the main medicine hurriedly walking towards Sun Jiayi's courtyard.
He realized that his secret had been exposed, and his face turned pale as he knelt down on the ground with a thud.
"Father, I'm innocent! It was all Lin Rusi's fault..."
"Shut up! You think I don't know what you've done? I've smoked more cigarettes than you've eaten meals."
Looking into that cold gaze, Sun Huier fell silent, lowering her head and looking to the other side.
It's unclear how long the stalemate lasted, but the Duke of Jin finally let out a sigh.
"Before you have a husband, you don't need to come back to the village outside the city and stay there obediently."
