Chapter 138: I Refuse
Chapter 138: I Refuse
"Hey?"
After hearing Consort Can mutter a few words, she released Song Miqiu's hand.
Song Miqiu propped herself up on the bed with one hand, and heard the person on the bed say, "You've come?"
Upon hearing this, Song Miqiu was startled.
She turned her head and saw that Consort Can's eyelids were still half-closed. Song Miqiu bent down and waved her hand in front of Consort Can, but the other party did not react.
Seeing this, Song Miqiu breathed a sigh of relief, realizing that the other party was not fully awake.
An idea suddenly popped into her head, and Song Miqiu whispered a few questions.
Now that Consort Chan is conscious, though not fully, but able to answer questions, isn't this a good time to ask for clues?
Thinking of this, Song Miqiu was overjoyed. She immediately squatted down beside the bed, tossed her black hair aside, and looked at Consort Can, who was half asleep, and asked her a few questions in a low voice.
Before Consort Can could wake up, a commotion suddenly broke out outside the door.
Song Miqiu shrank back in fright; she never expected that someone would come to the Cold Palace at this hour.
She glanced at Consort Can's sleeping face with annoyance, then glared angrily at the door, as if she were staring through the door at the person who had disturbed her.
He was so close to asking her the question she wanted to know.
Song Miqiu got up in frustration and walked in another direction. Someone was bound to come in through the main gate, and she absolutely could not leave through it.
She took a detour along the original route before returning to the palace.
Jason Zhang stood at the gate of the courtyard with his entourage. He stood there with his back straight, while his entourage stepped forward and knocked on the door knocker.
After knocking for a while without anyone appearing, Zhang Jiesheng frowned, tilted his head back, looked at the door, and asked in a low voice, "Has anyone seen Jia Zhen come out of this courtyard?"
"No." The attendant looked bewildered, spreading his hands in confusion.
The people he hired spent almost the entire day monitoring the entrance to the courtyard, afraid of missing Jia Zhen's comings and goings, and the two of them took turns doing so.
Upon hearing this, Zhang Jiesheng became suspicious.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Yu Huailin appeared at Zhang Jiesheng's door.
Yu Huailin nodded lightly to Zhang Jiesheng, his tone indifferent, showing no remorse for making him wait at the door for so long, "I was asleep just now and didn't hear you."
After he finished speaking, the attendants waited for him to continue, but Yu Huailin looked at them coldly with a furrowed brow after he finished speaking, clearly displeased that the two of them had come to visit.
Won't you invite us in for a seat?
Yu Huailin paused, glanced at the time, and said with a hint of impatience, "If you have something to say, say it here. It's getting late. If there's nothing else, please go back."
Zhang Jiesheng remained silent, then began to speak to Yu Huailin.
But the other party did not respond; he simply stood at the door, his hands clasped in a fist, his eyes revealing impatience.
Yu Huailin was truly surprised by how much Zhang Jiesheng would talk. Zhang Jiesheng had been incredibly capable when he mocked him earlier, but now he was coming to the door in the middle of the night and rambling on and on.
Yu Huailin led the two away from his house and walked to the base of a tree not far away. Under the moonlight, he listened silently to Zhang Jiesheng speak.
Knowing that he couldn't get rid of Yu Huailin anytime soon, Zhang Jiesheng's eyes flashed with a cold glint. He looked up and saw that Yu Huailin hadn't responded to any of his many words, and he was furious.
He had been unhappy with Jia Zhen for a long time, and now that Jia Zhen was treating him like this, it was clear that he didn't take him seriously.
Zhang Jiesheng felt resentful, but more than that, he was panicked. If this trend continued, Jia Zhen would soon be on equal footing with him, just as the Crown Prince had said, as colleagues, equal colleagues.
The only solution right now is to take Yu Huailin under my wing, so that I can use his strategies and plans to my advantage, and his status will never surpass mine.
Jason Zhang coughed lightly and spoke his mind, "Jia Zhen, you're a newcomer, so it's best not to be too arrogant right away."
"Furthermore, there are some things that you will definitely not be able to do well if no one guides you. Otherwise, if you become my disciple, I will familiarize you with all matters and help you solve all problems."
"Then we'll be like brothers. Tell me your plans and schemes, and I'll turn everything you've imagined into reality. What do you say?"
At the same time, fearing that the other party wouldn't listen to him if he didn't have something good to attract them, Zhang Jiesheng remained silent for a moment before reluctantly bringing up some treasures from his mansion.
The attendant stood aside, unable to get a word in edgewise. When he heard Zhang Jiesheng say that he was going to take out several treasures, he was even more shocked.
He glanced in Jia Zhen's direction out of the corner of his eye, subtly tugged at Zhang Jiesen's sleeve, leaned his head towards the other's side, and whispered, "Sir, there's really no need for all this..."
It's better to be safe than sorry.
Zhang Jiesheng needed someone who would absolutely not threaten his position, so he was willing to bleed a little, as long as Jia Zhen was willing to work for him.
"Finished?" Yu Huailin tilted his head and raised an eyebrow, his tone full of impatience.
Zhang Jiesheng was about to continue speaking, but upon hearing this, he paused, frowned, looked up at Yu Huailin, and swallowed the words he was about to say. "What do you mean by that?"
“What I mean is,” Yu Huailin coldly raised his eyes and uttered each word clearly, “I refuse.”
"what?!"
Jason Zhang couldn't help but raise his voice. He glared angrily at the person in front of him and demanded sharply, "I've offered you so many conditions, and you still refuse?"
"No matter how many conditions are available, is it better to assist the Crown Prince?"
These words hit the nail on the head, leaving Zhang Jiesheng speechless.
He remained silent for a moment, then pointed at Yu Huailin in a fit of embarrassment and anger, "Jia Zhen, don't be ungrateful! It's your good fortune that I've taken a liking to you. If you continue to work without anyone to guide you, you'll anger the Crown Prince sooner or later and be kicked aside by him!"
"I'll see if you're still laughing then."
Yu Huailin found Zhang Jiesheng annoying and simply didn't bother to respond. He glanced at Zhang Jiesheng and his entourage and asked, "Is everything alright?"
Before the two could react, Yu Huailin didn't linger. He turned and strode away without pausing at all.
As Zhang Jiesheng watched the other person's back disappear from his sight, he angrily clenched his fist and punched the tree root hard.
He turned his head to look at his attendant, his eyes filled with malice.
"Find an opportunity later and assassinate Jia Zhen!" Zhang Jiesheng said angrily in a low voice. His eyes flashed as he looked at the room Jia Zhen had left, his heart filled with boundless rage.
He spoke so humbly and didn't give me any face at all.
