Chapter 259 Infiltrating Avalon
This is one of ten special scepters seized from the depths of the Sacred Armory, clearly equipment reserved for elven officers or nobles.
Li Ang completed the binding, feeling the connection established between himself and the scepter. Then, with a slight thought, the scepter began to transform in his hand, eventually becoming a long-handled battle blade with lightning flowing throughout.
"Not bad," Li Ang murmured to himself, then restored the scepter to its original state.
He only wanted to test the scepter's transformation ability and didn't intend to keep one for himself, since such a magical item wouldn't provide him with much of a boost.
At this point, all 1,035 standard scepters and 10 special scepters seized in this operation have been unlocked.
Li Ang leaned back in his chair, his long-tense nerves finally relaxing slightly. He glanced at the hourglass in the corner of the wall; there were less than ten hours until the noon ceremony.
So he rested for a while to replenish his depleted mental and physical strength.
After resting for about half an hour, he got up and stretched his stiff muscles before leaving the stone chamber.
Upon seeing Li Ang emerge from outside the door, the five bear-man guards simultaneously straightened their bodies, placed their right hands on their chests, and performed the most solemn bear-man salute. They did not speak, but the respect in their eyes spoke volumes.
Li Ang nodded and walked straight towards August's residence.
August was already fully prepared, while Sherry stood beside him, wearing light leather armor with two sword-shaped scepters hanging from her waist. These were the [Three-Spell Activation Staffs] that Li Ang had unlocked the day before yesterday, each containing three level-two spells.
"Lord Li Ang, you've worked hard." Upon seeing Li Ang, August took the initiative to greet him and continued, "All the unlocked scepters have been distributed. The main force of the Self-Defense Force consists of 600 people, plus 435 elites drawn from various nests, for a total of 1,035 people who are armed and in place. They will be assigned to various battalions as fire support teams. The total number of people participating in this operation is 50,000."
"How's the route into the city going?" Li Ang asked.
"It's all arranged," Shirley replied.
"The Great Cave Master has prepared royal carriages and identification documents for us, so we should be able to pass through the city gate check smoothly. Once inside the city, there are six contact points where we can hide and resupply. The topographical map of the area around the Tree of Life is here."
She handed me a piece of parchment, on which were densely covered with fine lines.
Li Ang took the parchment, quickly scanned it, and memorized the information on it.
Then he took out the ten transformable scepters from his spatial ring and said to August, "These are the ten special scepters. They can change their form according to the user's needs, and the spells stored within them are also more powerful. I need two of them, and you can distribute the rest to those who need them."
August nodded, and said thoughtfully, "These scepters can be distributed to the captains of each squad."
"These are for you." He handed the two scepters he had received to Mia and Lillian, who had been staying here for the past few days to assist with the coordination and preparations.
Mia took the scepter, her pale yellow vertical pupils widening: "For—for me?"
"Try it out. This is a variable scepter that can change shape according to your preferences," Li Ang said.
Mia grasped the scepter, closed her eyes, and focused her mind. The scepter's surface began to glow and twist, eventually forming a pair of steel claws that fit perfectly into her hands. The claw blades gleamed with a cold light, and flowing lightning patterns were faintly visible inside.
"Wow!" Mia excitedly waved her claws twice, the steel claws cutting through the air with a slight hum.
"It's so light, and it feels so sharp!"
Lillian then transformed her scepter into a slender wooden bow, its body entwined with vine-like patterns, and its bowstring formed from pure light elements. She gently pulled the bowstring, and a pale golden arrow of light automatically took shape.
"Thank you, Mr. Li Ang," Lillian said softly, her pale golden eyes filled with gratitude.
Li Ang nodded and looked at August: "When do we set off?"
"Now." August put on the mask, his voice coming through the metal.
"The carriage is ready. Shirley will accompany you; she knows all the routes in the city. I will command the general offensive outside the city, and it will begin precisely at eleven o'clock."
He reached out and shook hands firmly with Li Ang: "May fate be kind to us."
"I prefer to believe in my own strength rather than fate," Li Ang replied.
Inside the carriage representing the Augustan royal family, Li Ang and Sherry sat facing each other. Both of them had changed into elven-style clothing. Li Ang's face was covered with a special shapeshifting potion, giving his skin the porcelain white color unique to elves. His pointed ears were also a flawless disguise. Sherry wore a wide-brimmed hat, which covered her conspicuous feline features.
Soon the carriage arrived at the gates of the holy city. The guards carefully checked the documents and scanned the carriage with some kind of detection device before finally waving it off.
The carriage slowly traveled along the clean white streets of Avalon. Through the carriage window, Li Ang could see the prosperity and tranquility of this elven holy city. The towering white buildings were covered with glowing vines, and strange plants were planted on both sides of the street. The elven residents were elegantly dressed and composed, and occasionally a few orcs wearing collars could be seen.
But beneath this tranquil surface, undercurrents were surging. Li Ang noticed that there were an unusually large number of patrols on the street, and the guards looked tense, their divine scepters always ready to be activated.
"Since the Battle of the North Gate, the city's security has been tripled," Shirley explained in a low voice.

"However, the documents and identities prepared for us by the Great Cave Master can withstand scrutiny. Your current identity is that of his close advisor, while I am your pet. We are now heading to the area where the Tree of Life is located to attend the ceremony. Many nobles will be there today, so it should not arouse suspicion."
An hour later, the carriage stopped at a secluded courtyard two streets away from the Tree of Life district. An elven coachman loyal to August whispered, "My lords, we have arrived. From here on, everyone will have to walk."
Li Ang and Shirley stepped off the carriage and quickly blended into the crowd on the street.
The area where the Tree of Life is located is a forbidden zone in Avalon, and normally only royalty and high priests can enter.
But today, because of the upcoming coronation and sacrificial ceremony, the nobles who were granted permission to attend were allowed to enter the outer area.
Looking up, Li Ang saw the legendary giant tree standing tall in the distance, its trunk as thick as a mountain, its canopy reaching into the clouds, and every leaf radiating a soft golden light. Even from afar, one could feel the immense life energy it contained.
