Chapter 14 A Girl's Heart
Chapter 14 A Girl's Heart
With a few simple skills and natural beauty, Margarita, who had just come of age, quickly made a name for herself in the capital.
But she always had a hidden worry in her heart, feeling that this job would one day expose her as a heretic.
What? You're asking where she's "different" as a heretic?
Of course, it's the fact that she has magic! In Margaret's view, "different" actually means "different". Anyone who is different from ordinary people can be classified as a heretic. Furthermore, if she is reported, then she is undoubtedly a heretic.
As she was cornered in Regent's Park by her friend and three men, Margaret thought to herself, "This day has come so quickly."
It's reasonable that her abilities had no effect on Anna.
However, she was soon shocked to discover that the men were completely unaffected! Their malicious intentions towards her were perfectly justified; they simply wanted to kidnap her and take her to the police station to extort money!
In other words, the reward offered by the police is much more than the money these men gave Anna... Anna, Anna, you need to be more careful! You're still gambling like this, and you're letting people take kickbacks!
Faced with this situation, Margaret was prepared to use her superpowers to fight to the death.
She didn't trust Scotland Yard and worried that if she were arrested, it would immediately become an achievement for some official.
The reason she thought this way was simple—she had never seen a cult, but she had seen police officers.
People tend to fantasize about things they've never seen before, while demystifying the common things.
To everyone's surprise, her superpowers were useless when the old lady with dual pistols appeared out of nowhere. With a single shot and a magazine of bullets, she chased away several thugs who wanted to pick up the money. Margaret later learned that the old woman's name was Dina Lovecraft, and that she had been a housewife for half her life. She had learned to shoot on her own when she went camping and hunting with her husband.
Her husband used to be a high school teacher, and it's said that a prime minister came from that school. Now the old man is retired and works as a full-time gardener in Regent's Park.
Margaret didn't believe a single word of the above.
These two are definitely cultists. Dina's marksmanship must be some kind of supernatural ability, and her husband is a professor of occultism.
Margaret Saguru has encountered another stroke of good fortune. In this world, only other heretics can understand them. With the support of Tantric Buddhism, Margaret Saguru believes that she will soon be able to escape her daily anxiety and truly gain a foothold in the big city!
Her emotions reached their peak the moment Winston appeared.
As if she had returned home and seen her brother, Margaret's nose tingled, and she almost burst into tears.
She wanted to tell the other person how difficult it was to live alone in London. At first, because she couldn't afford to rent a house, she had been paying to stay in other people's stables. Her colleagues in the circus were jealous and always talked badly about her behind her back. The ringmaster drugged her and put her in a customer's bed. She used her superpowers to survive the night and swore to God that she would never go back. But when dawn broke, she found that she had nowhere to go and secretly sneaked back to the circus...
The bustling traffic of the big city dazzled her, and even now she doesn't understand why the differences between people can be as vast as the difference between clouds and mud. Why some people can express feelings that could engulf mountains and fields, but then turn around and that feeling disappears like morning dew.
She didn't understand these things, probably because she was a heretic.
That's what Margaret thought.
Therefore, when Winston approached her and asked if he would be willing to spend a day or two each week visiting Regent's Park, she almost instantly fell in love with him, like a brother or sister in her family. However, after hesitating for a long time, she could only manage to ask one question:
"Excuse me... do you also live around here? Is 'Prime Minister' your pseudonym?"
We'll meet again tomorrow, won't we?
The girl was overjoyed at this thought.
……
"I wonder how things are going with Professor Lovecraft."
Winston thought to himself.
He really wanted to take a look and try to find some occult textbooks that could only be found in the attic of a novel's male protagonist's house, but unfortunately, the prime minister had too much work to do.
He met with no fewer than five cabinet ministers this morning, which suggests that these five ministers, like him, hadn't slept well last night. They were probably waiting for the newly released list to find out whether they had successfully taken office.
Of the five ministers, three were Conservatives and two were Liberals. The former said something like, "Great Britain needs to be more cautious in times of change. Many things have established ways of being handled, and it may not be wise to make hasty adjustments"... implying that Winston should follow precedents when doing things.
The latter was more tactful, but also said, "Your position has not yet been fully understood by all parties. This may be your advantage, but it also means that we need more time to build consensus." The aim was to get Winston to give them more benefits in Parliament in exchange for the support of the Liberal Party.
Winston's assessment was that none of them were good people; he'd drag them all to the hospital for a team-building exercise someday, but there was nothing he could do—that's how it is when you're a lone commander.
He skillfully brushed them off with "Oh yes, yes, yes," and the remaining time flew by as he reviewed official documents.
These documents were not required to be read; his loyal and humble private secretary, Martin Grayling, had already categorized them, with the left stack simply marked "Yes" and the right stack marked "No."
However, Winston still watched it.
He felt he urgently needed to supplement his knowledge in various fields.
Another reason is that Winston discovered that his "Management Capabilities" on the system panel would slowly increase as he read documents.
[You have finished reading a report from the Ministry of Finance. Management ability +0.0001]
Hmm... Even though it only increases by a little bit after reading a thousand copies, every little bit counts. This is what they mean by "diligence can make up for lack of talent"!
Winston buried himself in his books.
He had originally planned to visit the employment agency in the afternoon, but now, engrossed in work, he was too lazy to go. He simply asked Martin to send a telegram, clearly stating his needs:
A young, healthy, and meticulous maid is ideally someone who can cook.
The days without food delivery were truly a nightmare.
Perhaps the name of 10 Downing Street was enough to make the agent work with exceptional efficiency. That very evening, a blonde woman carrying a suitcase and wearing a green dress knocked on Winston's door.
"My name is Eileen, and this is my letter of recommendation." She gave Winston an elegant smile. "Good evening, Prime Minister, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Hello there."
Winston quickly glanced at the letter of recommendation that Eileen handed him. He didn't know the writer, but the content was pretty much the same, basically summarizing Eileen's professional skills and praising her for being so dedicated as a maid.
After Martin and the guard confirmed that there was nothing seriously wrong, Winston said to her:
"The first two days are the trial period. You don't need to tidy up the study, but you do need to cook three meals a day. You will stay in a room on the first floor at night. Unless I call your name, don't go upstairs no matter what noise you hear."
This is to prevent the strange noises from v1888 and my own headache from causing unnecessary trouble.
Winston didn't realize that his statement was, in a sense, very "esoteric."
