Chapter 311 Human Females Fleeing in the Beast World 39
Shen Chumo nodded slightly and put on the mask.
In an instant, a strange energy fluctuation enveloped her face, and her originally delicate features were instantly distorted and reassembled, turning into a completely unfamiliar rat-headed beastman.
Those small but shrewd rat eyes darted around, and his whiskers trembled slightly with his breath. Even his demeanor seemed to transform into that of a cunning rat-orc, his every move exuding the agility and caution unique to this race.
Importantly, she exuded a unique aura, an aura like a mist, which interfered with any mental detection that might be present in the vicinity.
After making preparations, Shen Chumo followed the route provided by the old man and headed towards the entrance of the dark market.
The entrance was hidden at the end of a narrow alley, surrounded by a putrid smell, and the walls were covered with unknown black vines, making it look particularly sinister in the dim light.
Shen Chumo took a deep breath and stepped steadily into the alley.
As soon as she reached the end of the alley, two burly guards blocked her way.
The two guards exuded a powerful aura, clearly indicating that they were experts. Their eyes swept over Shen Chumo, filled with vigilance.
"Halt! Who goes there?" one of the guards asked gruffly.
Shen Chumo remained calm and raised her head, allowing the guards to see the mask she was wearing.
"I'm here to make a deal." Her voice, specially altered by the mask, became low and hoarse, making it impossible to discern her original tone.
The two guards exchanged a glance, one of them nodded slightly, and stepped aside to make way.
Shen Chumo walked steadily into the dark market, and the scene before her eyes opened her eyes.
The dark market was brightly lit, and various stalls lined both sides of the street. The stall owners sat lazily, not actively soliciting business, but just waiting for discerning customers to come to them.
The stalls were filled with a dazzling array of items, from energy crystals that emitted a mysterious light to strangely shaped weapons and equipment, and even some strange creatures that Shen Chumo had never seen before.
The air was filled with a variety of complex smells, including the fragrance of spices and the stench of blood.
Shen Chumo weaved through the crowd, cautiously observing her surroundings while keeping an eye on the items on the stalls.
Suddenly, she heard an argument.
"This is clearly fraud! This energy stone is not pure at all; it's mixed with too many impurities!" A short orc angrily pointed at the stall owner and said.
The stall owner, a voluptuous woman, curled her lip in disdain: "In the dark market, you have to accept the consequences of your bet. You didn't see clearly, so who can you blame? If you know what's good for you, leave now, or don't blame me for being impolite!"
Shen Chumo frowned and was about to turn around and leave when she noticed a box emitting a strange light on the shelf behind the stall owner.
The box was covered with mysterious runes. Shen Chumo's heart stirred, and her intuition told her that the contents of the box might be useful to her.
She approached the stall discreetly, pretending to casually browse the other items, muttering to herself from time to time, "The things in this black market look strange, but the prices are outrageous. These things aren't worth that much money."
She kept glancing at the box emitting a strange light out of the corner of her eye, deliberately feigning indifference.
The stall owner, who was busy dealing with the dispute with the dwarf orc, caught a glimpse of Shen Chumo's picky behavior and felt a little impatient. However, thinking that he could make another sale, he still spared some attention.
He said to Shen Chumo, "If you think it's too expensive, then don't look at it. You have good taste; you know that everything here is top-quality."
Upon hearing this, Shen Chumo immediately chimed in, "Good stuff? I doubt it. Take that box behind you, for example. It looks a bit special, but it might just be a pretty but useless thing, maybe just something to fool people."
Upon hearing this, the stall owner immediately became displeased and retorted, "What do you know! The things in this box are very valuable. If you weren't a stranger, I wouldn't even be planning to show them to you."
As she spoke, she reached out and took the box, opened it, and inside was a bead that emitted a warm glow. Strange patterns flowed across the surface of the bead, as if it contained endless mysteries.
The stall owner wasn't worried that Shen Chumo would suddenly run away. In this dark market, if Shen Chumo dared to steal anything, she would be close to death.
Shen Chumo picked up the bead with disdain, "It's just a bead, it's pretty, but what's the use?"
Upon seeing this, the short orc next to him quickly said, "Brother, let me warn you, never buy anything from this guy, he's a real scoundrel."
The stall owner rolled up his sleeves, a flash of anger crossing his face, and cursed at the short orc: "You ungrateful wretch, daring to act wildly on my turf, I think you don't want to live anymore!"
As she spoke, several thugs suddenly emerged from behind her and surrounded the dwarf orc.
The dwarf orc shrank back in fright, but still mustered his courage and muttered in a low voice, "That's true. The things you sell are all overpriced and of low quality. You can't cheat people like this in the dark market."
Seeing this, Shen Chumo had an idea and felt that this was a good opportunity to lower the price.
She put the beads back in the box and waved her hand dismissively: "Never mind, after hearing what he said, I feel even more that these beads aren't worth the price."
Maybe it really is what he says, a useless piece of junk. I don't want to be a sucker for that.
As he spoke, he made a gesture to return the box to the stall owner.
The stall owner's eyes flickered. She had found this by chance and didn't know what it was. It looked a bit like a pearl from the other side of the sea, but it was also different.
She even brought a nicer box to pack it, hoping to get a higher price, but unexpectedly, someone still caused trouble.
"Hey, don't go!" The stall owner grabbed Shen Chumo's arm, his face full of smiles, but the smiles didn't reach his eyes, revealing a hint of urgency and calculation.
“It’s not easy for anyone to do business. If you give me a fair price, this bead is yours.”
Shen Chumo crossed her arms and said with difficulty, "For this, I can only give you a hundred gold coins at most."
"One hundred gold coins?" The stall owner raised his voice, a look of disbelief on his face. "Brother, are you kidding me? This box of mine isn't even worth one hundred gold coins."
Shen Chumo shrugged and said nonchalantly, "Well, there's nothing I can do about it. This bead does look a bit special, but who knows if you picked it up from some obscure corner to fool people?"
Seeing this, the stall owner's eyes darted around. "Brother, I won't beat around the bush with you. One price, three thousand gold coins, how about it?"
Shen Chumo rolled her eyes and turned to leave, while the short orc was still laughing loudly beside her.
"Serves you right, let's see how you swindle people now."
